NSW Health deploys Microsoft Teams to all 140,000 staff – Cloud – Software- Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

NSW Health has equipped more than 100,000 staff with Microsoft Teams since the federal and state government ramped up their public health response to the coronavirus pandemic in March.
The department’s digital arm, eHealth NSW, on Monday said all of its more than 140,000 staff now had access to the unified collaboration platform, as well as Skype for Business.
When the government’s pandemic shutdown began in mid-March, this figure stood at 34,000 – or less than a third of its total workforce.
Like most other workplaces, NSW Health, including local health districts and speciality health networks, have been directed to work from home where possible to limit the spread of the virus.
Clinicians have also been using Skype for Business to conduct face-to-face consultations virtually where in-person appointments have been disrupted.
This has also allowed clinicians who have needed to self-isolate to continue working.
eHealth NSW conference, collaboration and wireless program manager Jason Matthews said the rollout had enabled clinicians to continue to communicate remotely during the pandemic.
“What it’s doing is enabling NSW Health staff to work and collaborate remotely and safely, which during a global pandemic has never been more crucial,” he said.
Service delivery executive director Farhoud Sallimi said the surge in demand had been met by leveraging the agency’s “Amazon Web Services environment to scale out our Pexip capacity”.
Pexip is an enterprise videoconferencing platform. The vendor is based in Norway.
Early this year, eHealth NSW began brokering public cloud service from both AWS and Microsoft Azure in part to help scale up services in a more timely fashion.
Almost half a million direct person-to-person calls took place on Teams and Skype for Business in April – almost 25 times more calls than in April 2019.
More than 275,000 virtual meetings with a total of one million attendees also took place, compared with 18,000 meetings between 66,000 attendees the year before.
Other state health departments have also introduced Teams at lightning speed in response to the pandemic.
SA Health armed more than 40,000 of its staff with the platform in just a single week to ensure communication, particularly between clinical teams, could continue during the coronavirus crisis.

Microsoft Teams Now Available for Personal Use | Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

Sourced from Tech Republic.

Microsoft has launched the personal version of Microsoft Teams, as a part of a broader effort by Microsoft to remain relevant with its consumers after a series of moves away from consumer-friendly products.
The company is adding new features to the existing Microsoft Teams app that might appeal to a set of people looking to do more than just chat. The Verge writes that this is not meant to be a way to begin to compete with the likes of WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger, but simply a repositioning of Teams as more friendly to individuals and their families, and not just meant for corporations or businesses.
Sourced from The Verge.
Launched initially as a preview for iOS and Android, Microsoft Teams for personal use includes the basics of text chat and video calling, combined with shared lists, documents, calendars, and location sharing.

The app now includes a dashboard of events, locations, tasks, and images that everyone in a group has shared. Microsoft is trying to take all of the best features of Microsoft Teams for work and make them relevant for when you need them at home.
Microsoft wants to the repositioning of Teams to be a means for families or friends to organise groups events or get things done – such as planning a family vacation or staying in touch with extended families.
“I think if all you want to do is just have a chat with someone, there are plenty of great standalone chat apps,” admits Liat Ben-Zur, a Microsoft executive working on the company’s “Modern Life” initiative to The Verge.
Microsoft Teams is now being designed for “people who find themselves coordinating lots of group type events,” says Ben-Zur.
“Everything from busy moms… to people who head up Girl Scout troops, fantasy football leagues, people who are doing book clubs, people running social advocacy groups. People who are constantly finding themselves in groups trying to coordinate various things in groups.”
The mobile versions of Microsoft Teams for iOS and Android will be updated to allow anyone to log into the apps with a personal Microsoft Account.
Users will be able to quickly switch within the apps from work to a home account and use the personal version alongside other Office apps like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

3 Things Healthcare IT Teams can do to Improve Cybersecurity | Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

Sourced from Getty Images.

The healthcare industry has been forever changed by digital transformation. Innovation in the medical space has led to advances in new treatments as well as cost savings that do not negatively impact the quality of care. The added benefit: faster, better networks have allowed for the growth of telemedicine, bringing quality care to thousands who did not have access before.
An unfortunate side effect has been that cybercriminals are targeting the healthcare sector now more than ever. As a result, cybersecurity is critical to the success of health systems, which are increasingly at risk as cybercriminals look to steal patient data or hold internal resources for ransom. The vulnerabilities that enable these attacks exist in any vertical, but in the case of healthcare, they can be life-threatening.
Here are three areas that healthcare IT and security teams should focus on to improve their security practices:
1. Prioritising the security of telemedicine
Online tools and medical IoT devices for monitoring patient health are now ubiquitous – they are even used in surgery. Patient portals give people more control over their healthcare and better access to critical information. This wave of medical digital transformation cannot exist, however, without ensuring that data and connections are kept safe from cybercriminals.
Healthcare IT teams face several challenges when it comes to combatting cybercrime. To fight their battle, they must have visibility into the extended network architecture, data, and operating systems, as well as the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) devices on the network. Two of the most important tools for achieving this level of visibility are network access control (NAC) and cyber threat assessment programs (CTAPs).
2. Defending against insider threats
Cyber threats do not just come from outside the organisation. Insider threats – whether by malicious insiders, negligent users, or careless users – can be even more dangerous than external threats. The reason: these threats not only come from inside the secure network perimeter but also use different methods than external threats, creating additional challenges for healthcare security teams in the monitoring and mitigation of threats.
User training and network segmentation are an important start. But protecting against insider threats also requires full visibility into the network, as well as a robust set of benchmarks against which to compare threat data – things that have proven to be difficult in the healthcare space so far.
3. Defending the Internet of Medical Things
Connected medical devices are a fundamental component of coordinated healthcare. Many patients rely on them to maintain their health, even when they cannot visit the doctor – think heart monitors, blood sugar level regulation, and chronic disease management. Unfortunately, these IoMT devices are innately insecure and vulnerable to the same types of attacks that impact other technologies, putting patients’ health – and lives – at risk.
This issue is made all the more complicated because cybercriminals do not need to be within close physical proximity to compromise a connected medical device. Upon gaining access to a healthcare network – whether through a misconfigured or unsecured device, or vulnerable cloud data service or health system application – cybercriminals often have access to all devices connected to that network. With this in mind, it is imperative that the healthcare industry, including the developers of these IoMT devices, take steps to secure this technology moving forward.
The healthcare industry cannot afford to be lax with security as they rapidly adopt digital transformation. The patients who rely upon the health system for critical healthcare services, whether in person or remotely, are put at risk every time they make use of telemedicine offerings, use IoMT devices, or access data via an unsecured connection.
The solution for healthcare security is multi-pronged. It requires cross-network visibility, prioritised threat management, real-time threat assessment, and a strategy for remediation should an event occur. The key to this approach is to plan ahead and to leverage threat analysis to secure against both internal and external threats to the healthcare facility.

How to Use Microsoft Teams in 4 Quick Steps | Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

Sourced from Tech Republic.

Microsoft Teams has exploded in popularity since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent remote work exodus. Hundreds of thousands of people have brought their offices home with them, and with that, they’ve turned to Microsoft Teams.
The platform has very quickly become the leader in remote teamwork in a very competitive market, having a huge bevvy of work-orientated features tailored to working from home successfully.
Now, with more and more companies allowing to let their employees work from home for as long as employees wish, it’s as good a time as any to understand how to use Microsoft Teams.
Without further ado, here are the four steps you can follow to become a Teams pro:

Step 1 – Creating Teams and understanding Channels

To start your teamwork collaboration, you first need to create a team. To set up a team you input a name and a description. After this is set up, team members can be added.
Each team has subsections called Channels. Within any created team you can add multiple channels. For example, within a team – the name of your company can be used as the team name, and then for the channels, you can have “Marketing”, “Sales” or “Blog”.
Overview. Sourced from Gadgets Africa.
Every one of the channels come with its own set of tabs along the top. Conversation (group chat), Files (shared documents) and Notes (shared OneNote) are automatically created and you can then add your own tabs.
One of the key features of Teams is the Conversation tab. This allows each Team to have a centralised discussion that is saved and easily searchable. In Conversations is where all the concurrent teamwork is recorded. It’s basically a large group chat, like Skype, for example. In here you can share files and make video calls to anyone within the Conversations group.
Conversations. Sourced from Gadgets Africa.
The use of @mentions allows you to tag participants or even whole teams to notify others. Similar to how Discord works. You would type, for example, “@John @Jane Please can you have the report in by Friday”, then Teams will send a notification to both John and Jane and highlight their names in the chat.
Another key feature is the Files tab. Here you can perform a variety of different tasks within a window or browser. Users can delete, download, move files, open, copy, edit or get a link to share with others.
Files tab. Sourced from Gadgets Africa.
You can also start a Group chat alongside the file, to allow team discussions while all working on the files – and this conversation will appear in your Conversations thread.

Step 2 – Taking Notes and sharing them with your Team

Clicking on the Notes tab takes a user straight to your Team’s shared OneNote drive. Within Teams, users can view and edit the notes within OneNote from the Team’s window. Users can also access the Team’s notes through the OneNote app.
Making notes. Sourced from Gadgets Africa.
Here you can leave notes for your entire team to see. For example, the marketing lead can leave a series of marketing notes for the Marketing channel. Only those within the marketing channel will be able to see and access these notes.

Step 3 – Adding your own Tabs

With three pre-set tabs, users can also create and add their own tabs. For example, a tab for a planner, a tab for Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, specific dashboards, and maybe even a tab to share memes or family pictures.  Just click on the + icon next to the Notes tab to get started.
Now, Teams has support for many Microsoft products, like those mentioned above, as well as many other future integrations still being worked on. Like integration with Asana, for example. Team users should expect many more integrations incoming as Microsoft attempts to make the lives of users as easy as possible as thousands flock to its teamwork platform.
Asana integration. Sourced from Gadgets Africa.

Step 4 – Understanding the Menu and all of its features

Along the left-hand side of the Teams window, users can navigate the many different features within the platform. Features including Chats, Meetings, Files and Activity.
Activity shows the latest movements and uses – the activities – of the members of the team you are part of.
Chat is the receptacle for all of your team’s Skype for Business conversations, including a complete chat history. Note that this chat bar is for chats outside the actual Teams platforms. To use the chat in Teams and channels, users should use the Conversations tab.
The Meetings tab pulls your meetings in from your Outlook account. It also allows you to schedule meetings, where the Meetings tab sends notifications to the members of your team when a meeting is due. Gadgets Africa reminds us that Teams is for collaboration, not for calendar management.
Within Files, you can view a database of documents across Microsoft’s clouds services in OneNote, OneDrive and Teams itself. There is also a helpful ‘Recent’ tab so users can quickly access the latest documents you were working on.

Slack and Amazon Join Forces to Take On Microsoft Teams | Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

Sourced from TechSpot.

Slack is partnering with Amazon in a multi-year agreement that means all Amazon employees will start to use video-conferencing and business communication platform Slack. This deal comes on the heels of Slack facing increasing competition from Microsoft’s Teams platform.
The deal will also see Slack migrate its voice and video calling features over to Amazon’s Chime platform, alongside a broader adoption of Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Amazon’s roll-out of Slack to its employees is a key part of the deal, thanks to an enterprise-wide agreement. It’s not immediately clear how many of Amazon’s 840,000 employees will be using Slack, though. Up until today, Slack’s biggest customer has been IBM, which is rolling out Slack to its 350,000 employees.

The Verge writes that Slack has long used AWS to power parts of its chat app, and it is now using Amazon’s cloud services as its prefered partner for storage, computation, database-use, security, analytics, machine learning and for future collaboration features. The deal means it’s unlikely we’ll see Slack turn to Microsoft’s Azure cloud services or Google Cloud to power parts of its service in the foreseeable future.
“We have not used Azure,” says Brad Armstrong, VP of business and corporate development at Slack, in an interview with The Verge.
“The vast majority of our service has always run on AWS.” He reiterates that it is highly unlikely that Slack will be using Azure in the future.
The adoption of Amazon Chime for Slack’s voice and video calls is is another key feature of the deal. Voice and video conferencing is a particularly weak point of Slack compared to Microsoft Teams, but this new integration should mean it will be vastly improved in the future. Slack has already started the migration, and it’s looking into new features.
“For now, we’re just focused on shoring up the back end,” says Armstrong. “As Chime has additional features, we’re looking at bringing the mobile experience to include video, which it doesn’t today. We’re also looking at transcription.”
Both Slack and Amazon are also promising better product integration and interoperability, especially for features like AWS chatbot – a service that pushes out Slack channel alerts for AWS instances.
In the coming months, Slack and AWS will improve its Amazon AppFlow integration to support the bi-directional transfer of data between AWS services and Slack channels.
“The future of enterprise software will be driven by the combination of cloud services and workstream collaboration tools,” says Slack CEO Stewart Butterfield in a statement yesterday.
“Strategically partnering with AWS allows both companies to scale to meet demand and deliver enterprise-grade offerings to our customers.”

GHD moves 10k employees onto Microsoft Teams in under a week – Software- Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

GHD has moved 10,000 members of its global workforce onto Microsoft Teams in under a week as its offices went from 90 percent capacity to zero amid the coronavirus shutdown.
The Melbourne-headquartered professional services firm was forced to condense its planned schedule from weeks down to months as the global number of infections rose, chief information officer Elizabeth Harper said.
“We had commenced work on this digital transformation and had the Office 365 foundations in place,” Harper said.
“As COVID 19 emerged we initially compressed our deployment plan from a few months to a few weeks, but in those early days of COVID 19, things were rapidly changing.
“Our response to this was to go for it.”
Harper said Teams was effectively deployed overnight so staff could remain safe and well at home while continuing to support clients.
GHD used pre-prepared go-live support materials from Microsoft FastTrack as the basis for its changement management communications, customising as necessary to meet the needs of different teams around the world.
GHD prioritised the roll out of Teams online meetings and audio conferencing to ensure the most essential communication tools were available during the pandemic.
With executives also using the platform for crisis management, the company was able to go from having 90 percent of its workforce in the office in mid-March to working 100 percent from home the next week.
The company has continued to use its SharePoint on premise solution to host information and documents, but in the future plans to create Teams workspaces that ensure all information is available from a secure central location.
“Under normal circumstances we would have deployed Teams much more slowly,” Harper added.
But with Microsoft 365 already forming the basis of GHD’s core productivity environment, the transition was made easier.
It also supported staff starting in new roles or locations during the months of shutdown, as with the appointment of Dr Kerry Neil as the regional general manager of South Australia in April, who had been a principal with the company in Queensland since 2008.
“While I was unable to meet my team in person when I started my new role, Teams provided a great platform through which I was able to reach out and meet the team virtually,” Neil said.
“By setting up Teams meetings and hosting Events I was still able to use those first weeks to let my team know I was there, ready to support and provide leadership.”

Microsoft to keep investing in Skype despite success with Teams- Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

Read Article
Despite its video conferencing app Teams breaking all records in the social distancing times, Microsoft said it would continue to invest in Skype that has crossed 40 million daily active users. Purchased in 2011 for $8.5 billion, Skype communication tool has failed to keep up with other messaging rivals to date, while Teams has seen a meteoric rise as millions of people work from home.
“We’re continuing to invest in Skype. It’s growing through all this. You’ll see some new features. You’ll see Skype and Teams interoperate,” Jeff Teper, CVP for Microsoft 365, told VentureBeat.
Microsoft Teams registered a new daily record of 2.7 billion meeting minutes in a single day on March 31 – 200 per cent increase from 900 million on March 16. The number of weekly Teams mobile users grew more than 300 per cent from early February to March.
“As Teams lands with consumers and does more things, I think people will pick Teams. But we’re not going to be heavy-handed about this. People love Skype. And so, we’re not going to get ahead of ourselves here,” Teper was quoted as saying.
Microsoft recently revealed that Skype usage was up 70 per cent (month-over-month), while Skype to Skype calling minutes was up 220 per cent in the Covid-19 times. The tech giant said it plans to continue adding new features to Skype.
“Facebook, for example, has multiple tools with Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp. Those all continue to grow. They did work to interoperate with them. They’re not forcing a migration from one of their consumer tools to another,” said Teper.
“Teams has a very different flavour to it than Skype. It does overlap in the same need, just like Messenger and WhatsApp do from Facebook. And so, we’ll have them interoperate, but we’re going to continue to show love to the Skype customer base,” he was quoted as saying.
At its ‘Build 2020′ virtual conference last week, Microsoft introduced several new capabilities in its video meet app Teams which has become a hub for teamwork combining meetings, calls, chat, and collaboration into a single tool.

QBE moves 15,000-strong global workforce onto Microsoft Teams – Finance – Training & Development – Software- Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

Insurance heavyweight QBE has moved over 15,000 members of staff around the world onto Microsoft Teams in a move that supported collaboration and connectivity as working from home suddenly became the norm.
The insurer’s 300-strong Technology Services group was the first to pilot the technology and change management mechanisms that would go on to be used across the whole company, allowing it to understand where extra support would be needed.
Migration began in QBE’s US region in January this year, and was completed globally by March.
“We managed to migrate North America in seven working days, Europe in nine working days, Asia was one event and then Australia in 10 working days,” global workplace services portfolio manager Scott Paterson said.
“We really condensed that to limit the in-region impact.”
Roughly 500 staff in North America were migrated every evening, Paterson said.
“We would migrate them and then we’d have floor walkers on that site knowing exactly who’s been migrated the night before and ready to go around and make sure everything was okay.
“We then just simply rinsed and repeated that for North America, for all the sites, then in Europe for all of our sites, and then in Asia and then in Australia.”
Part of the speed and success of the transition was the time taken to ensure proper consultation and training before and after the migration process.
Everyone involved in the transition was contacted directly to let them know about the upcoming changes, with more than 1600 people attending a specialised half hour structured training session.
It was also incentivised by setting up staff competitions that encouraged engagement with the planned change and follow-up surveys that were used to inform the next tranche of the rollout.
Paterson said the success of the change management process was essential for a company that is “typically quite risk averse”.
All up, 15,402 people transitioned to Teams, with 12,000 active daily users.
Even before the outbreak of COVID-19 and the subsequent shift to remote working, the number of Teams Chat messages jumped 3000 percent compared to the time before the wide-scale move.
Teams audio calls also rose 2500 percent and Teams Meetings have increased by more than 2000 percent.
Those figures continued to increase after the pandemic took hold, without any significant stability or end user issues to date.
“Everyone was ready to use Teams to carry on their roles within the organisation and we haven’t witnessed any service disruption since switching to a Working from Home/remote model relating to collaboration or team communication.” Paterson said.
For such a major migration, it was “pretty much a non-event,” he added.
“We had next to no disruption.
“We had no executive or manager level escalations.
“We had nobody without service, and our incident demand, which we target between five and 10 percent rise in incidents through any migration event, was just over 1 percent, which is just off the scale.”
QBE is now preparing to transition employees to activity-based working once the COVID-19 crisis ends using the lessons from the Teams migration, particularly when it comes to support and education of new technologies.
“Consumption is not adoption – we understand that and will work to adopt more” Paterson said.

Microsoft has introduced several new capabilities in its video meet app Teams which has become a hub for teamwork combining meetings, calls, chat, and collaboration into a single tool. Now, one can create teams quickly with customizable templates.
“Choose from common business scenarios, like event management and crisis response, as well as industry-specific templates, like a hospital ward or bank branch. Each template comes with pre-defined channels, apps, and guidance,” said Jared Spataro, Corporate Vice President for Microsoft 365.
Admins will also be able to create new custom templates and templatize existing teams in their organization, allowing them to standardize team structures, surface relevant apps, and scale best practices.
“Templates in Teams will roll out in the next few months and appear automatically,” Spataro announced during the ‘Build 2020′ developer conference on Wednesday. Now Teams users can easily create and manage chatbots and integrating with Teams is also easier than ever.
“Just select the bot you want to use and then click Add to Teams. For additional convenience, Power Virtual Agents now supports single sign-on (SSO), so users will no longer have to reauthenticate when using Teams for the first time,” informed Spataro.
Developers and admins will soon be able to add their custom applications from Power Apps to Teams with a single click of the Add to Teams button.
“Meanwhile, new Power Automate business process templates for Teams will allow creators to streamline workflows using pre-built templates, or as a base to customize their own,” said Microsoft.
Organizations will now be able to schedule, manage, and conduct business-to-consumer virtual appointments through the new Bookings app integration in Microsoft Teams. According to the tech giant, un healthcare alone, there were more than 34 million Teams meetings in the past month, including virtual visits.
Microsoft introduced new Network Device Interface (NDI) support and Skype TX interoperability for Teams. It offers a more advanced set of production options for both public and private, customized, high-scale broadcasts.
Coming soon, NDI for Microsoft Teams will transform a Teams meeting into a virtual stage by converting each participant’s video into a discrete video source that can be used in the production tool of your choice.
The company also announced new features in Microsoft 365.
At Ignite 2019, Microsoft announced the public preview of Microsoft Fluid Framework – a new set of experiences designed to make collaboration seamless by breaking down barriers between apps.
“The first Fluid Framework integrations in Microsoft 365, coming to Outlook and Office.com, will enable you to collaborate on dynamic content and create connected components that can be shared simultaneously and seamlessly across apps,” said Spataro.
Tables, charts, and task lists can be easily inserted in Outlook for the web, so your sales numbers, project tasks, and research reports are always up to date.
Within Office.com, Fluid workspaces can be created and managed, including within your document activity feed, Recommended list, and @mentions—or search for them across Office.com. Fluid Framework is now open source and can be used to instantly make apps collaborative.
Outlook on the web can now help compose email messages with text predictions.
“Using intelligent technology to infer meaning and intention, Outlook can help you compose faster, avoid typos, and craft polished email messages,” said Microsoft.
The company also launched a new Lists app which is smart information tracking app across Microsoft 365. With Lists, users can easily track data and information to stay updated on the latest status.

Indian CEOs using Microsoft Teams to rebuild businesses: Anant Maheshwari- Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

Read Article
The nationwide lockdown has made CEOs and CXOs, who were earlier against video calling, comfortable with Microsoft Teams in not just conferencing with customers but also doing actual collaborations and integrating business processes within the solution, a top Microsoft India executive has stressed.
According to Anant Maheshwari, President, Microsoft India, this one solution has taught people to actually work together and create together in this more than 50-day work from home environment.
“People who said listen, I don’t want to do video or calling because I like to meet people in person, I see many of those executives and CEOs and CXOs being so comfortable with this now and actually saying, hey, this is giving me more opportunities to do many new things. So ideation is changing as it’s happening,” Maheshwari said at the recently held virtual Microsoft Envision Forum.
As new work norms evolve and we continue to work from home, organizations are realizing they need a comprehensive solution that brings communications, collaboration, and business continuity together on one platform.
In a session with Aarthi Subramanian, Group Chief Digital Officer for Tata Sons, Maheshwari said: “I’ve seen people move from just the need for video conference to collaborate, to actually get work done, to integrate business processes inside the solution”.
For him, Teams is a huge canvas, a huge enabler because it goes way beyond video conferencing.
Going forward, “data and analytics will become really critical”.
“There will be a lot of understanding of what data and analytics says. Companies and people will also say, I want to be more productive, so I need more data and more analytics coming to me as tool kits,” he mentioned.
Next, enterprises will need to scale up this digital experience.
