Google has announced new digital tools for small businesses along with expanding support links for donations and gift cards on their Business Profiles in additional 18 countries. Google recently allowed merchants in six countries to add support links for donations and gift cards to their Business Profiles on Google.
“We have partnered with PayPal and GoFundMe for donations. For gift cards, merchants can link directly to the relevant page on their website or to their gift card offerings with one of our eligible partners, which includes Square, Toast, Clover and Vagaro,” Google said in a statement.
According to the company, in the coming weeks, people will also be able to use Search and Maps to find all of the nearby businesses that are asking for support.
Google said it is also expanding ”Reserve with Google” to help merchants offer easy appointment bookings for online services so customers can quickly find available times, book a slot, and add it to their Google Calendar — all directly from a merchant”s Business Profile.
“Millions of people have already booked in-person appointments with salons, restaurants and other businesses thanks to integrations from over 100 Reserve with Google partners,” said Google, adding that it is including bookings for online services, starting with partners like Booksy, Regis, WellnessLiving, and Zooty.
Since March, Google has seen more than 1 million businesses share COVID-19 posts.
“Since March, more than 3 million restaurants have added or edited their dining attributes. Some restaurateurs are even ditching dining areas for good,” said the company

The Small Business Relief Initiative aims to raise funds for small and micro-businesses that are facing difficulties in paying employee salaries and in covering business expenses due to COVID-19. India has around 6.4 crore MSMEs that contribute to 29% of the GDP and employ 11.1 crore people.
As the COVID-19 induced lockdown continues, most of the small and micro businesses in the country are struggling to survive mainly due to cash flow problems. The Small Business Relief Initiative brings together Milaap’s crowdfunding platform with Intuit QuickBooks’ expertise, to provide local businesses with the resources and tools they require to start a crowdfunding campaign in a few clicks, via the Milaap platform where qualifying businesses that have been impacted by COVID-19 can raise micro-grants to meet essential business expenses.

Google pledges monetary relief to local and small newsrooms covering coronavirus- Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

Google has created a journalism emergency relief fund to provide support for local and small newsrooms on the frontline of covering the coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19).
It believes local news is a vital resource for keeping people and communities connected in the best of times as it plays an even greater function in reporting on local lockdowns or shelter at home orders, school and park closures, and data about how Covid-19 is affecting daily life.
According to Richard Gingras, the vice president of news at Google, the funding is open to news organizations producing original news for local communities during this time of crisis, and will range from the low thousands of dollars for small hyper-local newsrooms to low tens of thousands for larger newsrooms, with variations per region.
Google declined to reveal the amount of money in the relief fund and how it decides what amount to allocate to each publisher.
Additionally, Google is giving $1 million collectively to the International Center for Journalists, which plans to provide immediate resources to support reporters globally, and the Columbia Journalism School’s Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma that is helping journalists exposed to traumatic events experienced during the crisis.
“Starting today, publishers everywhere can apply for funds via a simple application form. We’ve made this as streamlined as possible to ensure we get help to eligible publishers all over the world,” said Gringas.
“Applications will close on Wednesday, April 29, 2020, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time. At the end of the process, we’ll announce who has received funding and how publishers are spending the money.”

While Zoho has grown significantly upmarket, serving mid-market and enterprise customers in addition to small businesses, the company believes that for the broader economy to stay healthy, SMBs must stay healthy and viable. ESAP is intended to lighten the financial burden put upon its small business customers during this chaotic and difficult period.
“Certain industries have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic, and we strongly encourage our customers in these industries to apply for this program,” continued Vembu. “While we want to provide relief to as many small business customers as possible, we will prioritize those who are most in need. We hope that others, who can adapt to the market conditions, will help us by allowing this program to remain available for those struggling to stay afloat.”
Earlier this month, Zoho launched Remotely, a virtual productivity platform of 11 collaboration applications, provided to businesses of all sizes around the world for free, so that companies could effectively make the transition to remote work. Since its release 2 weeks ago, more than 5,000 new companies are running on the platform, and that number is increasing every day. Zoho has seen an average of 500% growth in usage of its collaboration apps and 1,000% growth in daily new users of Zoho Meeting.

Indie ad firms chew over chancellor’s coronavirus pledge to small businesses- Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

UK chancellor Rishi Sunak has pledged a £350bn lifeline to help battle the economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic, including a series of measures designed to help big firms as well as small and medium businesses. However, independent agencies across ad land are still seeking more clarity and assistance from the government.
Backed by £20bn in direct aid, the suspension of business rates and grants for the hard-hit retail and drinks sectors, the measures aim to tide the economy through a period of unprecedented challenge in which many will be forced to stay indoors.
Ripping up the economic rulebook, Sunak has also promised unlimited support, proportionate to the severity of the ultimate impact with tailored packages for the hardest-hit sectors such as airlines and airports – just five days after putting his budget to the country.
Among the first to benefit will be the hospitality sector where a business rates holiday has been implemented, backed by grants of between £10k and £25k for small businesses. Individuals in immediate financial difficulty will also be permitted to take a three-month mortgage ‘holiday’ by their lenders.
The unprecedented aid package does not go far enough in the eyes of some indie advertising firms however, with many demanding stronger leadership and greater clarity from the government on other issues that affect their operations.
Lawrence Weber, a partner at indie consultancy Curve, explained: “As a small, fully remote business, two of our biggest concerns are to keep paying salaries – which it seems yesterday’s announcement will help – and to make sure our amazing network of freelancers are safe too – something the government need to provide much more clarity on.
“Potentially the biggest challenge in this period though is maintaining everyone’s mental health. Not the job of a budget perhaps, but something we’d like to see some advice and leadership on from someone too.”
Amelia Torod, co-founder of indie brand consultancy The Fawnbrake Collective, said the financial measures from the government were a great start but didn’t help a business like her own in “the right ways”.
“The relief was centred around business rates which is not an issue to us as we don’t have offices. We don’t want to be taking out loans and getting into debt. Small businesses need tax relief and a VAT holiday now,” she added.
“For us it’s about how can the government help us minimise our out-goings so that our business can weather this. Already on Wednesday morning (18 March), one client which we had hoped to be working with just announced that they were laying off all 600 staff, so there’s no project for us to work on.
“When clients don’t know if they will have a business in three months’ time, thinking about a brand isn’t the priority.”
Stephen Woodford, chief executive at the Advertising Association (AA), warned that this was only the beginning.
“We welcome the business support measures announced today that should help keep people employed and businesses functioning during this unprecedented period of economic and social disruption. We also recognise the government’s ‘whatever it takes’ commitments to keep these measures under review and that more may still be needed to help the UK economy keep functioning.
“We are particularly conscious of the high proportion of SMEs in our industry and the intense pressure they are under to maintain service and retain staff.
“Measures such as the government-backed loans announced today are needed to help these firms manage their cash flow to survive and play their part in the recovery. They are vital to UK advertising’s capabilities which is a proven engine of the economy.”
The economic impact of Covid-19 on the global economy has been severe with much of the world shutting up shop for weeks, presaging an inevitable slump in output which will all but inevitably spell a severe recession.
The specific impact on the advertising economy has yet to be quantified but economists such as IAB Europe’s Daniel Knapp now foresee an event comparable to the 2008 credit crunch.
