Global secures BT outdoor network, adding 500 screens to Dax- Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

Global has secured BT’s outdoor inventory for three years, a 500 screen boost to the digital advertising stock on its programmatic sales platform Dax.
Dax, previously the Digital Audio Exchange rebranded as the Digital Advertising Exchange so it could host the growing outdoor stock of owner Global and create a one-stop-shop for advertisers.
With the BT deal, Global has secured 17,500 BT kiosks (print), 500 payphones and 500 digital street units (formerly known as InLinkUK). Any additional inventory BT secures in the next three years will be added into that mix too.
The 500 screens, which join Dax in April, will also run content and news from the LBC network.
Katherine Ainley, managing director of Ventures at BT, said: “[The] deal… is another milestone in the evolution of our future street strategy. Global has extensive experience of working across traditional and digital media for our existing estate, and have demonstrated a compelling vision for how we can work together in the future to innovate and grow our digital street presence.”
BT secured the 500 screens from former partner InLink which entered administration in December. A rebrand is in the works for this service.
Stephen Miron, Global’ chief executive, added: “The three year partnership with BT will provide advertisers with many opportunities to access BT’s national street furniture estate based in key locations across the UK, many in very close proximity to major high streets and shopping centres.”
The news comes one day after Bauer Media and Wireless Radio announced their Dax rival Octave.

NZXT’s latest AIO CPU coolers include customizable LCD screens – Blog – 10 minute

In context: PC enthusiasts love to customize and tweak their rigs through overclocking, part swapping, case modding, or even the addition of fancy RGB lighting. Now, NZXT wants to give them yet another way to make their machines their own with its latest line of liquid CPU coolers.
NZXT today announced multiple additions to its “Kraken” CPU cooler roster, all of which fall into the new X-3 and Z-3 product line-ups. The Z-3 series promises to offer the most “visually appealing” and “highest performing” all-in-one (AIO) coolers on the market.
Though we can’t vouch for the latter claim without testing the devices ourselves, NZXT certainly seems to have achieved the former. Both of the company’s new Z-3 AIOs — the 280mm Kraken Z63 ($250) and the 360mm Kraken Z73 ($280) — feature a new, fully customizable LCD screen instead of the already-impressive “infinity mirror” logo and light ring design we’ve seen in the past.

The screens have been built directly into the Z73 and Z63’s water blocks, and they can display just about anything you want. You can add GIFs, static images, system details (such as your CPU temperature), and more. You do have to use NZXT’s often-finicky “CAM” software to make these adjustments, but that’s probably a small price to pay for some customization fanatics.
NZXT’s cheaper X-3 series AIOs don’t have the customizable LCD screens that their pricier cousins do, but all of the company’s new coolers feature Aer P radiator fans, which were designed for silent “liquid-cooling perfection.” The X-3 line-up consists of the 240mm Kraken X53 ($130), the 280mm X63 ($150), and the 360mm X73 ($180).
If you want to snag any of the coolers mentioned above, you can do so now. All X-3 and Z-3-series AIOs are available for purchase on Amazon or NZXT’s website.

Dax rebrands and expands to absorb Global’s digital outdoor screens- Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

After a significant outdoor advertising landgrab in 2018 and 2019, Global’s grand plan looks to be taking shape as it integrates its outdoor digital advertising inventory with Dax, its owned and operated digital audio ad buying platform.
Dax will rebrand from the Digital Audio Exchange to the Digital Ad Exchange to reflect the broadening inventory available on the platform. From February 2020, the inventory will be made available to buyers keen to make have local and contextual cut-through on their digital audio campaigns with digital outdoor creative.
Advertisers can now buy up screens through demand-side platforms (DSP) on Dax as they would audio and video. The Trade Desk, Vistar Media, Mediamath and Hivestack are helping deliver this functionality on launch.
Global hopes that by making the inventory easier to buy, and hosting it on the same platform, it can attract a greater share of spend and be a cornerstone of brand strategies.
Admedia, Elonex and All City Media Solutions have also signed on to sell inventory through the platform. In the last two years, it has bought up Exterion Media, Primesight, Outdoor Plus and MMD to build a 235,000 screens portfolio. 954 screens will be buyable upon launch.
Ollie Deane, director of commercial digital at Global, said: “We launched Dax back in 2014 to enable advertisers to reach their audience while they listen to the world’s most loved audio content. Its growth since then has been down to advertisers using a variety of data sets and programmatic technology to accurately target audiences and measure the outcome.
“We’re now bringing this innovation to digital outdoor. Our launch product will enable advertisers to buy through their DSP and we will introduce new and unique targeting and measurement products as the platform grows.”
Mike Gordon, chief commercial officer at Global, said the last few years operating in digital audio has given the group a newfound confidence to operate in the outdoor space, utilising programmatic tech to “create more moments that matter”.
TSB and eBay are among the partners testing the tech on launch.
Gareth Jones, chief marketing officer UK at eBay, said the buying platform has changed his strategy.
“Prior to Dax we built one 30-second radio spot for many millions of listeners. Now we’ll have up to 65,000 different radio spots running concurrently based on our gleaned listener intent. It was really interesting to see Global move into Outdoor and we were anticipating a big move from them.”
Pete Markey, chief marketing officer of TSB, added: “The potential to fuse audio with outdoor in a programmatic, highly targeted, way is really compelling.”
Markey previously told Tempemail how the marketing mix of radio and outdoor was being used to drive footfall to specific TSB branches through geotargeting and personalisation.
There is much excitement about the application of programmatic tech to the out of home space. As third-party cookies come under the cosh, it may also be the least intrusive application of the tech from a consumer standpoint.

Aston Martin’s new camera system splits the rear-view mirror into three screens – Blog – 10 minute

In a nutshell: Aston Martin wants to improve the driver visibility for owners of its luxury sports cars and has partnered with Gentex to develop a new rearview camera-based system for monitoring traffic to the rear and sides of the car while keeping conventional mirrors in place.
Digital rearview mirrors and side-mounted cameras on cars have been around for some time now, but they’re unlikely to replace conventional mirrors anytime soon. That’s why Aston Martin has taken a hybrid approach for its new tri-camera monitoring system, which uses cameras integrated into the car’s roof and side mirrors to stream their video feed to the digital rearview mirror.
The Full Display Mirror, co-developed with Gentex, is meant to provide a comprehensive view of the car’s side and rear in a single glance and also serves an auto-dimming unit when not being used as an LCD.
During operation, “the driver can choose between various viewing modes that present the three camera feeds in various intuitive combination views.” said the company in its press release.

Gentex also highlights the fail-safe aspect of the technology, where the driver can continue to use the car’s conventional interior and exterior mirrors in case of bad weather or a technical failure disrupting the video feed to the rearview display.
An auto-adjust feature allows the cameras to update the field of view according to the driver’s positioning of the mirrors for optimal display on the rearview mirror, which itself is offered in different types of flat and curved glass to meet various regional regulatory requirements.
The system is expected to appear in “future Aston Martin models,” and a prototype will be shown off at the upcoming CES show in Las Vegas.

Polarity raises $8.1M for its AI software that constantly analyzes employee screens and highlights key info – gpgmail

Reference docs and spreadsheets seemingly make the world go ’round, but what if employees could just close those tabs for good without losing that knowledge?

One startup is taking on that complicated challenge. Predictably, the solution is quite complicated as well from a tech perspective, involving an AI solution that analyzes everything on your PC screen — all the time — and highlights text onscreen that you could use a little bit more context on. The team at Polarity wants its tech to help teams lower the knowledge barrier to getting stuff done and allow people to focus more on procedure and strategy then memorizing file numbers, IP addresses and jargon.

The Connecticut startup just closed an $8.1 million “AA” round led by TechOperators, with Shasta Ventures, Strategic Cyber Ventures, Gula Tech Adventures and Kaiser Permanente Ventures also participating in the round. The startup closed its $3.5 million Series A in early 2017.

Interestingly, the enterprise-centric startup pitches itself as an AR company, augmenting what’s happening on your laptop screen much like a pair of AR glasses could.

The startup’s computer vision software that uses character recognition to analyze what’s on a user’s screen can be helpful for enterprise teams importing things like a company rolodex so that bios are always collectively a click away but the real utility comes from team-wide flagging of things like suspicious IP addresses that will allow entire teams to learn about new threats and issues at the same time without having to constantly check-in with their co-workers.

via Polarity

Using character recognition to analyze a screen for specific keywords is useful in itself, but that’s also largely a solved computer vision problem.

Polarity’s big advance has been getting these processes to occur consistently on-device without crushing a device’s CPU. Battista says that for the average customer, Polarity’s software generally eats up about 3-6% of their computer’s processing power though it can spike much higher if the system is getting fed a ton of new information at once.

“We spent years building the tech to accomplish [efficiency], readjusting how people think of [object character recognition] and then doing it in real time.” CEO Paul Battista tells me. “The more data that you have onscreen, the more power you use. So it does use a significant percentage of the CPU.”

Why bother with all of this AI trickery and CPU efficiency when you could pull this functionality off in certain apps with an API? The whole deliverable here is that it doesn’t matter if you’re working in Chrome, or Excel or pulling up a scanned document, the software is analyzing what’s actually being rendered onscreen, not what the individual app is communicating.

When it comes to a piece of software analyzing everything on your screen at all times, there are certainly some privacy concerns not only from the employee’s perspective but from a company’s security perspective.

Battista says the intent with this product isn’t to be some piece of corporate spyware, and that it won’t be something running in the background — it’s an app that users will launch. “If [companies] wanted to they could collect all of the data on everybody’s screens, but we don’t have any customers doing that.. The software is built to have a user interface for users to interact with so if the user didn’t choose to subscribe or turn on a metric, then [the company] wouldn’t be able to force them to collect it in the current product.”

Battista says that teams at seven Fortune 100 companies are currently paying for Polarity, with many more in pilot programs. The team is currently around 20 people and with this latest fundraise, Battista wants to double the size of the team in the next 18 months as they look to scale to larger rollouts at major companies.
