LEAKED: Images of Samsung’s 5G Galaxy Z Flip | Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

Image sourced from TENAA

Images said to be showing Samsung’s newest 5G device – the Galaxy Z Flip 5G – have made their home online, reports The Verge. The pictures, first listed by China’s TENAA certification centre, confirm some key design specs including a new silver colour scheme.
The images suggest that the 5G foldable device could be powered by the Snapdragon 865+ as opposed to the Snapdragon 855+ fitted to the original LTE Z Flip – “there’s still 8GB of RAM, but the batteries are listed with capacities of 2,500mAh and 704mAh, compared to the total capacity of 3,300mAh the phone had previously,” writes The Verge.
MySmartPrice reports that the 5G device’s camera setup could instead sport a 10mp ultrawide lens rather than the 12mp lens on the LTE device.
It’s also worth noting that the Galaxy Z Flip 5G has been FCC certified – igniting rumours that an official unveiling isn’t too far off.

A closer look at the Galaxy Z Flip
Samsung unveiled its next-generation foldable device – the Galaxy Z Flip – in February. The first official look showed off the device’s compact shape, exterior notification panel and impressive foldable screen display – something that the 5G version is likely to emulate.
Engineered with first-of-its-kind foldable glass, the Galaxy Z Flip featured a 6.7-inch display with 2,636 x 1,080 resolution and a 1.06-inch 300 x 116 notification panel on the front. Internally the device is powered by a Snapdragon 855+ processor and comes standard with 8GB of RAM, 256GB of internal storage, and a 3,300mAh battery.
The Galaxy Z Flip sports two 12mp lens – wide and ultra-wide – making up the rear camera while the front is fitted with a 10mp punch-hole selfie camera.

Samsung’s Profits Slightly Up During the Pandemic | Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

Sourced from Shutterstock

Samsung Electronics is one of the first major tech giants to announce earnings figures since the coronavirus pandemic broke out, and so far it appears the company was relatively unaffected, writes The Verge.
Today, the South Korean multinational conglomerate released its guidance, in which it states that Samsung’s first-quarter revenue was approximately $44.9-billion – a 5% year-on-year increase. Operating profit is also expected to rise by 3% to $5.23-billion.
The company does not break its earnings guidance down by division or comment on its business performance. This information is only expected in the final report to be released later in the month.

Further, as SK Kim of Daiwa Securities, an investment banking company, told CNBC, the company’s memory chip unit is likely to perform very well at the moment as there is currently a high demand for the product for data centres as more people shift to working from home.
However, it does seem quite inevitable that Samsung’s consumer electronics businesses will be affected by retail closures around the world, supply chain disruption, and financial uncertainty. This impact may not be reflected in the company’s financial results yet, but how grand the impact solely depends on how long the pandemic will draw out.
Apple Continues to Struggle
American multinational tech head-honcho Apple is facing a lengthy and highly publicized war of attrition against the coronavirus pandemic. From as early as February the company was facing decreases in revenue.
In the same month, it faced a 60% drop in shipments around the world. Reports indicated that iPhone shipments plunged to 494,000 units in February 2020 from over 1.2 million units in February 2019.
Currently, due to issues in the supply chain, as well with concerns that the global pandemic will lower consumer appetite for top-of-the-range smartphones, Apple is in heavy considerations of delaying the launch of their latest iPhone, the iPhone 12, by even as far as another year to the end of 2021.
Now, according to The Verge, Apple is already expecting to miss its forecast for the quarter due to the pandemic’s impact.

Samsung’s eUFS 3.1 storage chip offers threefold increase in write speeds, enters mass production – Blog – 10 minute

In a nutshell: Samsung has begun mass producing its 512GB eUFS 3.1 storage chips to address increased demand from the smartphone industry as more manufacturers prepare to ship 8K-capable video cameras on their flagship devices this year.
With its embedded Universal Flash Storage 3.1, Samsung has been able to surpass 1GB/s write speeds for smartphone storage, boasting a 3x increase over its previous eUFS 3.0 spec. The company claims it to be the ‘fastest mobile storage’ that will remove bottlenecks faced by smartphone users with conventional storage cards.
“At a sequential write speed of over 1,200MB/s, Samsung 512GB eUFS 3.1 boasts more than twice the speed of a SATA-based PC (540MB/s) and over ten times the speed of a UHS-I microSD card (90MB/s),” it noted in a statement, informing consumers to expect ultra-slim notebook speeds when working with large files like 8K videos or hundreds of high-res photos stored on their phones.

Samsung was among the first companies to launch an 8K-capable phone with the Galaxy S20, which eats through storage when recording at such a high resolution. Though it remains one of the few very smartphone makers to offer 8K video recording right now, more companies are certainly going to join it this year, ticking off yet another high-end spec that consumers expect from 2020 flagships.
These consumers would also be able to make their transition quicker, with Samsung noting that phones using its new eUFS 3.1 storage will take about 1.5 minutes to move 100GB of data, which is less than half of the 4-minute time currently taken by UFS 3.0-based phones. The new storage should also benefit app loading times and general use, thanks to higher IOPS seen across random read and write metrics.
Alongside 512GB modules, Samsung will also offer eUFS 3.1 storage in 256GB and 128GB capacities for premium smartphones where buyers aren’t looking to get the top-spec version.

Galaxy Buds+ review: Samsung’s AirPod killers that are now for everyone | Technology – Blog – 10 minute

Samsung’s second-generation Galaxy Buds+ correct a few mistakes and are now fully iPhone compatible, making them some of the very best standard true-wireless earbuds for just about anyone.
There is no shortage of good true-wireless earbuds in 2020, but Samsung’s £159 Galaxy Buds+ look to take the crown as the best set without noise cancelling.
Launched alongside the Galaxy Z Flip and S20 line, the earbuds are practically identical to their predecessors, which is a very good thing.
They are exactly the same size and shape as the old ones, but are 0.7g heavier at 6.3g per bud, not that I could tell, even side-by-side. They slot right into the concha with a quick twist, barely protruding from my ear, staying put without the need for any wings. You have to like the silicone-tip fit, of course, but they are one of the most comfortable earbuds available making them easy to forget while wearing.
If you need more stability there are two sizes of wings and three sets of silicone tips in the box, but they stayed put even while running for me.
Specifications

Water resistance: none

Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.0, SBC, AAC

Battery life: 11 hours listening, up to 22 hours with case

Earbud weight: 6.3g

Charging case dimensions: 38.8 x 70 x 26.5mm

Charging case weight: 39.6g

Case charging: USB-C, Qi wireless charging

Case and battery

The case has both USB-C and wireless charging, meaning you can quickly top it up from the back of a phone such as the Galaxy Z Flip. Photograph: Samuel Gibbs/The Guardian
The case is one of the best. Small, with a pocketable pill-like shape. It’s slightly larger than the standard AirPods case, but similar in volume to the AirPods Pro and Jabra Elite 75t cases. The lid closes with a reassuring snap, locking the buds in place. It will fit in a money pocket of a pair of jeans.
The earbuds lasted just over 11 hours of playback between trips in the case, which is far longer than most. The AirPods Pro last four hours, while the Elite 75t last 7.5 hours. The case then provides one full charge of the earbuds for a combined 22 hours between charges. The case charges via USB-C or wireless charging, while a three-minute fast charge via cable provides around one hour of playback.
Neither the battery in the case nor the earbuds is officially replaceable, which ultimately means they are disposable, but they should last several years of daily use at least. A third-party may be able to replace the battery, as was possible with the previous Galaxy Buds.
The earbud tips are standard, meaning third-party replacements are widely available should they get lost, but Samsung does not sell individual replacement buds or cases.
Connectivity and controls

The long-press touch controls can be changed between a few options in the Galaxy Wearable app. Photograph: Samuel Gibbs/The Guardian
The Galaxy Buds+ support Bluetooth 5, and the ability to “hot swap’ , which means either can be used on their own. They have support for the standard SBC and AAC audio formats, plus Samsung’s proprietary Scalable Codec when used with one of the South Korean firm’s devices.
There’s also a dedicated low-latency gaming mode that’s exclusive to Samsung devices, which helped all but eliminate the lag between something happening on screen and the sound reaching your ears that’s unfortunately inherent to Bluetooth earbuds.
They performed flawlessly with a Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy S20 Ultra, but were equally good with a OnePlus 7 Pro 5G and an iPhone 11 Pro. They can only connect to one device at a time, not two like some competitors.
Pairing is super easy. Either use the Galaxy Wearable app on your phone, or press and hold the touch panel on both earbuds while in your ears for five seconds until the tone sounds, then find them in your Bluetooth menu.
Switching from one device to the next is just a case of selecting the earbuds from your device; no need to disconnect another device first, which is a very welcome feature.

The touch panels on the buds take care of controls. Photograph: Samuel Gibbs/The Guardian
Each earbud has a touch panel that handles some of the best controls in the business. Tap once for pause/play, twice to skip forward or thrice to skip back. On all devices you can also press and hold the touch panel to do one of the following: adjust volume, activate the ambient listening mode or trigger your phone’s default voice assistant. On Android you can also fire up Spotify, which will immediately start playing the playlist you were last listening to or another recommended one.
I selected volume controls and never looked back. There is also the option to enable a double tap of the earbud’s edge to adjust the volume as an experimental feature under a section called “Labs” of the app. I couldn’t get it to work reliably without accidentally skipping track every second or third attempt.
Sound

There’s a limited EQ for adjusting the sound through a range of presets in the app. Photograph: Samuel Gibbs/The Guardian
The Galaxy Buds+ have improved audio thanks to a new dual-speaker system featuring a separate tweeter and woofer. Overall they produce detailed, balanced audio, with reasonable punch in the low end and clear mids, but need to be turned up a little to really bring out the bass. They sound great with pop music, high-energy electronica and even do a pretty full rendition of something like Miles Davis, but occasionally lack a bit of depth to really make the most out of a track such as Baba O’Riley by the Who.
The Galaxy Buds+ therefore sound considerably better than most rivals costing under £160. They won’t produce the sort of sparkling audio you’ll get out of Sony’s (RRP) £220 WF-1000XM3, but they’re less than half the size and a lot more comfortable.
The one thing the Galaxy Buds+ lack compared with recent rivals from Apple and Amazon is noise cancelling, which puts them in the same boat as Jabra’s Elite 75t. They do, however, make a good job of passively blocking out the world thanks to the snug fit and a good set of silicone ear tips.

The case is small and easy to pocket, fitting in the money pocket of a pair of jeans, which means it’s easy to carry to keep your earbuds safe when not in use. Photograph: Samuel Gibbs/The Guardian
By default there are three levels of ambient passthrough available if you do want to hear the world. The low setting was fine for listening out for announcements, while high was about the same as my normal hearing. There’s an experimental extra-high setting available, which amplified my hearing beyond normal limits but felt like something you could be easily deafened by.
You can activate ambient mode in the app, or by a long press, but I wish you could activate ambient mode automatically when you pause the music.
Call quality is much improved, too. Recipients said my voice came through clearly, but that some background noise from a coat was picked up, while road and wind noise was effectively suppressed. I could hear the other end of the call clearly, while sidetone is available as an option too.
Observations

The shiny black case is fairly easy to mark.

It takes a little bit of practice to insert the earbuds without activating the touch panel.

They are comfortable under a woolly hat because they don’t protrude from your ears.

The music doesn’t pause when you take an earbud out, like many others.

Price
The Samsung Galaxy Buds+ are available in white, black or blue for £159.
For comparison, Apple AirPods cost £159, the AirPods Pro cost £249, the Jabra Elite 75t cost £169.99, the Libratone Track Air+ cost £167, the Sony WF-1000XM3 cost £169, and the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless cost £280.
Verdict
Samsung’s latest Galaxy Buds+ strike the right balance of comfort, battery life, pocketability and sound to make some of the very best day-to-day wireless earbuds.
The controls are good, connectivity is rock solid, call quality is greatly improved and the case is great. They’re a no-brainer for Samsung users, great for other Android users and, now that there’s a dedicated iPhone app for them, they’re an excellent option for most people. They’re very easy to live with in a way only Apple’s AirPods have managed in the past, just with the proper isolation of a silicone earbud tip.
They’re not perfect, of course. They don’t feature noise cancelling – Apple’s AirPods Pro or Sony’s WF-1000XM3 are the ones you want if that’s important for you – but they do a good job of simply blocking out noise with a solid fit. They’re not water resistant, which is a bit disappointing too, but not a deal killer. They are not cheap, either, with an RRP of £159, but look out for deals given their predecessors were heavily discounted for long periods.
Galaxy Buds+ are an excellent set of everyday true-wireless earbuds. Samsung’s AirPod-killers, now great for just about everyone.

Pros: small, comfortable, good pocketable case, wireless charging, USB-C, long battery life, good sound, good calling, rock-solid connectivity, apps for both Android and iPhone.
Cons: no water resistance, no noise cancelling, no auto-ambient on pause, no pause on removal, no aptX, can’t connect to two devices at once.

USB-C charging means you can charge the earbuds from just about anything, including standard USB power adapters. Photograph: Samuel Gibbs/The Guardian

Galaxy S20 sales 50% lower than S10, but it’s not all Samsung’s fault – Blog – 10 minute

What just happened? Samsung’s new Galaxy S20 phones went on sale in its home region of South Korea yesterday, and things have got off to a slow start. But the sluggish sales have little to do with the handsets themselves: it’s yet another effect of the coronavirus.
According to the South Korea Herald, sales of the Galaxy S20 phones were down 50 percent compared to their predecessors a year earlier. While the latest devices sold around 70,800 units in Korea on Thursday, the Galaxy S10 line, which launched in March 2019, sold 140,000 units during their first 24 hours. The Galaxy Note 10 phones did even better, moving 220,000 units when they launched in August.
But while reviews for the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G have been mixed, partly over its $1,400 starting price, the slow sales are mostly due to the coronavirus. South Korea has the highest number of confirmed cases outside of China—over 2,000–which means fewer people are visiting retail stores because of infection fears. Samsung has also canceled some Galaxy S20 promotional events, so the phones haven’t been advertised as aggressively as usual.

Another problem is the lack of discounts and lower than expected subsidies available in South Korea. Even the standard Galaxy S20 starts at $1,000, with $1,200 for the S20+ and $1,400 for the Ultra, which means many consumers are looking for some good deals before buying one.
While Samsung will be disappointed with the figures, virtually every company is experiencing economic fallout from the coronavirus. Sales should improve once the outbreak gets under control—whenever that may be.

Samsung’s Galaxy S20 smartphones are the first to reach ‘Certified USB Fast Charger’ status – Blog – 10 minute

What just happened? The USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), the organization responsible for establishing standards for the USB interface, has announced that Samsung’s Galaxy S20 family of smartphones are the first devices to achieve “Certified USB Fast Charger” status.
Certified USB Fast Charger status comes with a few requirements, which Samsung has fulfilled. To meet the certification, a given device must support the Programmable Power Supply (PPS) feature of the USB Power Delivery (USB PD) 3.0 specification. This technology enables smartphones to charge faster while “better” managing thermals.
In theory, this news should mean Samsung’s devices will officially work with a much broader range of certified Fast Chargers. The USB-IF hopes the USB Fast Charger certification will increase the “reusability and sharing” of chargers across “all compliant devices,” reducing electronic waste and paving the way for a more convenient user experience.

“Galaxy S20 series has been certified to be compliant to the USB standards which means Galaxy S20 has met the highest standards in the industry,” Samsung VP of “Power Solution” Kisun Lee said in a statement. “We believe that a convenient user experience is the most important value and using a robust and inherently safe USB PD standard ensures interoperability and an optimized charging experience.”
The standard Galaxy S20 and S20 Plus will reportedly boast fast charging speeds of up to 25W, with the S20 Ultra kicking it up a notch to 45W. The first S20 devices are expected to hit the market early next month, with price tags starting at $1,000.

3 Reasons Why Samsung’s Galaxy Buds+ Will Make You Completely Forget About Apple’s AirPods – Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

Sourced from Voicebot.

Samsung has unveiled its next-generation wireless earbuds – The Samsung Galaxy Buds+. The introduction of these new earbuds will throw a massive blow to Apple’s stranglehold on the truly wireless earbud market, reveals Business Insider.
The Galaxy Buds+ have serious competitive advantages over Apple’s AirPods, namely:
1. Enormous Battery Life
The Galaxy Buds+ last more than twice as long on a single charge than the AirPods. Apple’s AirPods last 5 hours on a single charge, while their AirPods Pro last a little less at 4.5 hours. The Galaxy Buds+, however, last an unfathomable 11 hours of listening time, and 7.5 hours of talk time. With another 11 hours granted by its portable case, the Buds will last a total of 22 hours of listening time.
The Buds+ also boast notable improvements in sound thanks to both a Tweeter and Woofer and 3 microphones in each Bud. The Buds+ will give its customers a more sensory sound experience and even clearer and crisper phone calls than most wired or wireless earphones.
Even better, with just three minutes’ worth of charging, the Galaxy Buds+ will give you one hour of playback time.
2. Compatibility with iOS
Users worried about compatibility issues need not, as the Galaxy Buds+ are completely compatible with the iOS 10 and up iPhones.
This surely will have users considering between Apple’s ubiquitous AirPods and the Buds themselves.
3. Buds are Much Cheaper than Pods
Finally, Samsung’s excellent competitive pricing sees the Buds+ as much more affordable to Apple’s AirPods – An almost unbeatable advantage, considering the massively superior battery life.
Samsung’s Galaxy Buds+ retail for just $200, a wallet-loosening $80 less than Apple’s latest and greatest AirPods Pro earbuds.
As if any more convincing was needed, the Buds+ will also come in three more colours than the AirPods in black, white, blue and red.

Samsung’s next-gen Galaxy Buds+ offer better sound and improved iOS compatibility for $150 – Blog – 10 minute

Something to look forward to: Samsung’s annual Galaxy Unpacked event kicked off in San Francisco today, and it brought the usual array of exciting product announcements. There was the Galaxy Z Flip, the all-new S20 series of smartphones, and, the focus of this piece, the Galaxy Buds+ — the 2nd-generation of Samsung’s similarly-named truly wireless earbuds.
In short, the Galaxy Buds+ are a proper successor to the original Buds. While their design hasn’t changed at all, they do have better sound, longer battery life, better built-in microphones, and upgraded Ambient Sound noise cancellation.
To drill a bit deeper into the specifics, we’ll start with the audio capabilities of the Buds+. According to Samsung, each pair includes an “innovative” two-way speaker system (40 percent larger than before) and sound tech designed by AKG. The Buds+ feature a tweeter for “richer treble,” and a woofer for deeper, more powerful bass. All of this hardware, Samsung promises, will give Buds+ “studio-quality” sound playback, but that’s definitely something audiophiles will need to judge for themselves.

In terms of audio input, the Buds+ house three individual microphones, which use “beamforming” technology to capture your voice, and only your voice — background noises will be tuned out (as much as possible, anyway). On a similar note, Ambient Sound has been improved to let you adjust the level of noise cancellation the Buds+ offer. The available settings are Low, Medium, High, and Extra High.
Moving on to battery life, the Galaxy Buds+ is quite the improvement over their predecessor. The original Buds could run for six hours on a single charge, and their charging case was capable of providing an additional seven hours of power, for a total of 13 hours of usage. The 85mAh Buds+ almost double that number — the Buds themselves can run for 11 hours at a time, and their 270mAh case stores up another 11 hours of charge.

That’s 22 hours in total; for music playback, anyway. If you’re in a rush, you can also plug your Buds+ in for three minutes to get a full hour of charge.
That’s the bulk of the major improvements arriving with the Buds+, but there are a few other miscellaneous details worth mentioning. For example, the Buds+ are properly iOS-compatible now, which means previously Android-exclusive features will be available to iPhone customers. Furthermore, Samsung promises enhanced personalization and comfort, thanks to the three included wingtips and eartips, as well as the choice of three distinct colors: Blue, White, and Black.

The Buds+ are launching on February 14, which is just two days from now. They’ll run you $150, which is $20 more than the original Buds’ $130 price tag.
As always, we recommend reading reviews before rushing off to buy a pair of Samsung’s latest earbuds, but it’s unlikely that you’ll be disappointed with them if you were pleased with their predecessor.

Samsung’s Galaxy S10 line sticks around, gets a price cut – Blog – 10 minute

The big picture: Smartphone makers continue to push the boundaries of high-end device pricing in a cat-and-mouse game with consumers to see what they’re really willing to pay for the latest and greatest. Just a couple of years ago, a $1,000 flagship smartphone was scoffed at but now, nobody really bats an eye.
Samsung’s new Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy S20 smartphones are the talk of the town in tech today but their price tags have caught some consumers off guard. The new foldable clamshell, while cheaper than its predecessor, still commands nearly $1,400 to get in the door and if you want the top-end S20 Ultra, be prepared to shell out roughly the same amount of cash.
If you fall into the concerned consumer category, perhaps price cuts to last year’s flagship may be worth looking into?

Samsung during its Unpacked event on Tuesday announced that the Galaxy S10 family will be sticking around for another product cycle albeit at a lower price. The S10e will now start at $599, the standard S10 will command a minimum of $749 and the bigger S10+ will go down to $849.
The most affordable Galaxy S20 starts at $999.

Watch Samsung’s Unpacked livestream: Galaxy S20 launch, Galaxy Z Flip and more – Blog – 10 minute

In a nutshell: All eyes are on Samsung today as the company is set to unveil new high-end and mid-range smartphones, an AirDrop-like file-sharing feature, and perhaps a few other surprises. It all goes down in a matter of moments with the livestream starting at 2pm ET.
Samsung is hosting its Unpacked mobile event where most expect the company will unveil its first-half flagship line, tentatively known as the Galaxy S20. Pundits also believe the South Korean tech giant will announce a new foldable smartphone dubbed the Galaxy Z Flip.
While handset makers have historically waited until the end of February to unveil their new hardware at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, that’s not always the case and there’s an argument that can be made for doing so sooner.
You potentially get more attention with a standalone event than you do at a conference alongside several other companies. It’s the same reasoning that drives some to avoid CES. Also, this year with the coronavirus, Samsung may want to lessen its presence at Mobile World Congress as a safety precaution, just as others are doing.
XDA Developers’ Max Weinbach said last month that he believes the S20 line will be available on the first Friday of March (the 6th), or just over three weeks from now, with a price tag of around $1,300 for the Ultra model. The foldable, meanwhile, could debut around the $1,400 mark as more of a mid-range device.
