Some EVGA RTX 2060 KO models have RTX 2080 guts – Blog – 10 minute

Cutting corners: Not all of the EVGA RTX 2060 KO models are created the same. When we originally reported on the cards being outed at CES 2020, we mentioned they would run the usual TU106 die found in other RTX 2060 and RTX 2060 Super cards, however we stand corrected.
In their review of the EVGA RTX 2060 KO, TechPowerUp were pleasantly surprised to discover the presence of a TU104 die once the card was disassembled. Specifically, a TU104-150.
Nvidia’s TU104 silicon is what powers the RTX 2070 Super, RTX 2080, and RTX 2080 Super. Being that a fully equipped TU104 die contains 3,072 CUDA cores, and the RTX 2060 runs 1,920 CUDA cores, we can infer that these TU104 dies are likely those that didn’t make the cut for the higher-end cards.
Some yields are better than others, that’s just the nature of lithography. Thus, Nvidia has to cherry pick the best chips for high-performing SKUs. However, chips that don’t make the cut for more powerful models are free to be recycled for those that don’t require a fully capable die. This allows Nvidia to profit from otherwise unused silicon, and it gives AIB partners more flexibility in pricing.
There shouldn’t be any meaningful difference in gaming performance between a model endowed with the TU104 die versus one with the TU106 die. However, there are reports of improved workstation performance, such as Blender, if that’s of interest. TechPowerUp also reports that the TU104 chip does drink a bit more power, too.
Being that there will be a mix of cards with both TU104 and TU106 dies, there will be no real way for consumers to discern which one they’re getting prior to purchase.

InnoGames Models Avatar After Top Ethical Hacker- Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

InnoGames is among gaming brands like Nintendo and Riot Games taking a proactive approach to protecting its assets, inviting trusted hackers to identify potential security weaknesses on its site. Since 2019, InnoGames has resolved over 58 vulnerabilities with the help from 196 hackers and paid out $25,000.
Kevin Heseler, Security Engineer at InnoGames, tells us about how InnoGames leverages their bug bounty program to secure their games and the unique approach they have taken to awarding their most valuable hacker.
Q: Please introduce yourself. Tell us what you do at InnoGames and why cybersecurity is so important to your business.
Kevin: My name is Kevin Heseler and I am one of the Security Engineers at InnoGames. Our mission is to ensure that our games are always available for our players to enjoy and that no one gets an unfair advantage.
Q: Why did InnoGames launch a bug bounty program?
Kevin: While our gaming community is already a great asset for finding issues in the games, every hacker, researcher or security engineer has a different testing focus. Everyone can bring their own specialised knowledge or skill set to the game.
Q: How does this fit into InnoGames’s larger cybersecurity strategy?
Kevin: A public bug bounty gives InnoGames an additional channel for receiving information on bugs from many pairs of eyes. We can therefore identify new attack vectors and patterns and lower the administrative overhead for rewarding security researchers for bugs they find.
InnoGames has had a public bug bounty program for four and a half years in total. At first we did this by ourselves, where we learned that it can take significant time to triage the issues, and that rewarding researchers on the other side of the world can create very high administrative costs! About 3 years ago, we started to use a platform service, which helps us to focus on the issues, rather than on the administration.
Q: Any memorable interactions with hackers to-date? Favorite bugs?
Kevin: I think my favorite bug was a race condition, which was found in our Friend-invite feature. If you were quick enough, you could score some extra in-game currency. While it was not a substantial amount, the bug was really cool.
Q: Has anything surprised you about the program? What didn’t you expect?
Kevin: I was quite surprised by how many hackers returned to the program after not reporting anything for some time. I take this to mean our program is still an attractive one for researchers, I think because games are cool!
Q: What findings is the team most interested in surfacing? What types of bugs are most valuable to InnoGames?
Kevin:  Game Logic bugs or cheats are really cool findings, this is a unique attack surface for researchers to test.
Q: Tell us about the avatar promotion?
Kevin: We thought: We are a gaming company, how can we honour the most impactful researcher? And then it clicked: We can put a researcher in our game. We sat together with the artists for our biggest game, Forge of Empires, and figured out where to best place the researcher. A game avatar was the chosen option since anybody can see it within any era of the game.
After running the promotion, the honour was awarded to Batee5a. Batee5a is also a player of our games so we knew he would be excited about this prize as well.
Q: How did you choose Batee5a as the winner?
Kevin: We looked through all the reports and checked who had the biggest impact on our program based on submission count and severity of bugs submitted. Batee5a was the clear winner.
Q: Will you be running the promotion again?
Kevin: We are always looking at different ways we can encourage researchers and show special appreciation to the ones who stand out.
Q: Do you have any advice for hackers looking to hack on your program?
Kevin: Don’t think like a researcher for the first two hours; play the games. Understand how the application works, how the interaction between players work and what you should not be able to achieve.
Q: Do you have any advice for other organizations or security leads in regard to running a bug bounty program?
Kevin: Always keep your researchers in the loop. If you pause triage because of holidays or if the scope changes, talk to the researchers and explain what you are doing and why you are doing it. Bonus payments and promotions are a really cool thing and a powerful tool. However, some things money cannot buy. So, if you have a cool service, think about how you can honour the researcher through it.

The Best Places To Find 3D Printer Models – Blog – 10 minute

Whether you want to print out tools and parts for DIY projects, or something fun like a 3D printed Baby Yoda, you’ll need to find 3D printer models. It’s still a new space, and creating detailed models is a lot of work, so resources are still limited.
There are still a few gems out there that offer some great models for you to download and print for your own personal use. We’ve picked out a number of them that you’re sure to like.
Unless we explicitly state it in the opening paragraph, all websites featured in this article offer 3D models for free download. If you’re looking for 3D printers instead, here’s a list of great starter models.
Cults 3D – 3D Printer Model Platform

Cults 3D is a huge platform for creating, selling, and buying 3D printer models. Whilst some models must be purchased, there are also thousands of free 3D printer models to download too.
To get started, simply visit the website and search for something you’d like to print. Alternatively, visit the collections page and look for 3D models within certain collections. Popular collections include Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Pokemon.
For more productive prints, the useful objects collection might take your fancy. This includes projects like 3D printed smartphone holders, clamps for DIY work, or kitchen tools like egg separators and bag clips.

Please note that all of these 3D printer models are user submitted, so print instructions, model quality, and support will all vary from model to model. You can sort your search results by download or like count to make it easier to find good models.
If you can’t find what you’re looking for, you can find a creator to make a 3D model for you with the on demand feature. You must list the specifications of the model, give a budget, and choose a deadline. The more you provide in terms of specifications and illustrations for the print, the better.
Yeggi – Search Engine for 3D Printer Models

Yeggi doesn’t offer up 3D printer models itself, but instead provides a powerful tool to search for 3D models. Yeggi has been around since 2013 and since then there hasn’t really been any decent competition to make us suggest an alternative. Since Yeggi sends you to approved third party websites, some 3D models are only available for purchase. However, 90% of all models that appear in Yeggi’s search engine are free to download.
Yeggi has over 2 million 3D printer models in its database, so a quick search should return some good results. The search tools aren’t as comprehensive as Google, but you can still sort results by best match, popularity, or most recently added.

You can also filter out free or for sale models so that you get the results you need. Our only gripe with Yeggi is that searching for that perfect model often leads to clicking back and forth between multiple different websites, so be prepared to go through plenty of tabs on your browser.
Thingiverse – Find 3D Printing Projects
Despite the name, Thingiverse isn’t just about printing out things. It’s a great platform for finding fun, educational projects and to join a community. Take this LTB weather station for example. It’s also a great place to engage with other 3D printer owners and learn about what they’re building.

You can find specific groups so that you can interact with like-minded people. For example, some popular groups include engineering, Raspberry Pi enthusiasts, board game creators, Star Wars, and Warhammer 40K.
If you are after things to print out, that’s possible, too. The search bar is the best tool to use to find 3D printer models to print out. For example, a quick search for Baby Yoda returned hundreds of results, sorted by popularity.

Because of the community-led focus, you’ll have more tools to engage with each creator’s project. Let’s say you wanted to see how a specific 3D Baby Yoda print would actually turn out. You can see the Makes tab to view other user’s results after printing the model you are currently viewing.
YouMagine – Community Created Prints

YouMagine is driven by the community, perhaps more so than the other platforms we’ve listed so far. The goal behind YouMagine is to create an open source platform where individuals can work to create, edit, and collaborate on 3D printer models without any content restrictions.
That means models will often use a Creative Commons license. Typically, models will use CC Attribution Noncommercial Share Alike, which means you can download 3D models for free, edit, and reshare any work, but you cannot use it commercially.
For now, YouMagine’s community is a little smaller, but if you’re looking to collaborate with others on 3D printer models or want to find the starting work for your own 3D designs that you can print later, YouMagine is a great tool.
Instructables – For 3D Printing Projects

Instructables isn’t just about 3D printer models but it’s a great website to find fun, engaging projects that do utilize 3D printing. You’ll be able to find projects with full guides and downloadable model files.
Not only does this mean that you can print out some useful models, but you can learn how to do everything along the way. Download parts to build your own 3D printed toys, or learn how to create your very own 3D printable models too.

The Guardian appoints neuroscientist Annette Thomas as CEO: ‘A champion of innovative business models’- Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

Guardian Media Group (GMG) has shown some out-of-the-box thinking with the appointment of Annette Thomas, a neuroscientist and academic publisher, as its new chief executive.
She replaces David Pemsel, who announced his intention to depart last year after being appointed to run the Premier League. However, he quit before taking up the role after facing accusations about his personal conduct. Its chief customer officer Anna Bateson was then named interim chief executive.
However, Thomas will now lead its push for financial stability by leveraging her experience in scientific journal publishing. She has a PhD from Yale University in cell biology and neuroscience which, on paper, is an unconventional starting point for a media executive. She began her career editing scientific journals at Nature before leading specialist publisher Macmillan Science and Education and most recently spent two years at Clairvate Analytics.
The American has been living in the UK for the last 25 years and is particularly focused on “developing a financially sustainable future” now the group finally broke a profit.
Neil Berkett, chair of the GMG board, said: “Her track record is exceptional – she has consistently delivered sustainable growth through deep engagement with end-users, championing innovative new business models with more open access to content and data, and building diverse and inclusive management teams.”
Thomas said she was attracted by The Guardian brand’s “progressive perspective, global reach, and unique ownership structure with its values safeguarded by the Scott Trust are all significant strengths in these challenging times”.
She added that she was looking to develop new business models off the back of The Guardian’s “deep and loyal relationship with readers”.
“The need and appetite for trusted high-quality journalism, grounded in facts, has never been greater,” she said. “I’ve always admired the quality and breadth of the Guardian’s journalism, and I am looking forward to working with Katharine Viner and this exceptional team to develop a financially sustainable future built upon these values and principles.”
Thomas takes up the role in March 2020.

AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT models from Asrock, MSI, and XFX completely leaked – Blog – 10 minute

Highly anticipated: Squeezing in between the RX 5700 and RX 5500 XT is the new Radeon RX 5600 XT, a graphics card set to compete at the $300-ish price point. With leaks pinning it as having the same core count as the RX 5700 and clocks only 15% lower, it should be just as good value as its bigger brother.
AMD’s RX 5600 XT GPU has been detailed so thoroughly, it’s more appropriate to call it a flood than a leak. Asrock accidentally published a product page for the RX 5600 XT Challenger D 6GB OC, and XFX, not wanting to miss out, also accidentally published a product page for their RX 5600 XT Thicc II Pro Staging (a terrible name if ever there was one).
Videocardz has spilled the beans on Asrock’s RX 5600 XT Phantom Gaming D3 and MSI’s two cheaper variants, the RX 5600 XT Mech OC and RX 5600 XT Mech. As MSI’s non-OC Mech models always reflect AMD’s stock clocks, we’ve used its specs as a substitute in the table below.

Pricing information hasn’t made its way onto any accidentally published product pages, unfortunately. However, sources indicate that AMD is targeting the $299 price point, while board partners are pushing for $279. With 5700 models easily found at $320, lower is better.

Architectural differences between the 5600 XT and 5700 appear to be borderline negligible.
Based on the same die and having the same core count, the main physical differences are the shrinking of the memory to 6GB and the memory bus to 192-bit, which has reduced memory bandwidth to 288 GB/s. That means that you should be able to overclock the card to RX 5700 speeds and see similar performance if you’re not too aggressive with resolution or texture quality.
XFX lists the 5600 XT’s release date as January 2020. It’s likely to be unveiled during AMD’s CES 2020 presentation on Monday.

The iPhone SE 2 might be called the iPhone 9, and two models could arrive this year – Blog – 10 minute

Something to look forward to: Apple could launch more handsets than usual this year—up to six, including two new models that replace the iPhone SE. According to a new report, these devices may skip the obvious “iPhone SE 2” name and be called the iPhone 9.
The report comes from Digitimes, which writes that “Apple is likely to launch as many as six iPhone devices in 2020 – four OLED models and two LCD ones, according to sources at Taiwan’s handset supply chain.”
It’s worth noting that the only specific evidence in the report is a claim that Chipbond Technology, which makes display driver chips for LCD screens, has received orders for two different LCD devices, so take this with a grain of salt.

The original iPhone SE
If there really is a larger version of the iPhone SE 2, it’s said to have a 5.5-inch or 6.1-inch screen. The device is also supposed to arrive several months after the ‘standard’ version, possibly launching at the same time as the iPhone 12 lineup. Renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said, however, that an “iPhone SE 2 Plus” is being prepared for 2021, so we could be waiting longer for the larger model.
While the iPhone SE 2 and SE 2 Plus/Pro might seem like the names Apple would choose, the devices could be named the iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Plus/Pro. Cupertino jumped from the iPhone 8 to the iPhone X, so the 9 moniker hasn’t been taken.
As for what to expect in the new handsets, they’re said to look similar to the iPhone 8/8 Plus and come with internals comparable to the iPhone 11, which sounds quite compelling

Next Apple Watch could include new ceramic and titanium models – gpgmail

Apple’s next Apple Watch revision could include new materials for the case, including titanium and ceramic. That’s according to new assets pulled form the latest watchOS beta release, as uncovered by Brazilian site iHelp.br (via 9to5Mac). The new screens discovered in the beta show graphics used to pair the Apple Watch during setup, and list “Titanium Case” and “Ceramic Case” alongside model size identification info.

Apple has previously offered a ceramic Apple Watch, alongside its Series 2 and Series 3 models, with a premium price and white and black case options. The company hasn’t previously used titanium, but the lightweight, durable metal is popular among traditional watchmakers because it can really significantly reduce the heft of a watch case, while still providing a premium look and feel.

Last year’s Apple Watch Series 4 was the first significant change in body design for the wearable since its introduction in 2015, so it seems unlikely that Apple will change that this year again. The new physical design includes larger case sizes (40mm and 44mm, respectively, vs. 38mm and 42mm for previous generations), a thinner profile and a display with rounded corners and slimmer bezels.

Offering new materials is a way for Apple to deliver new hardware that is observably new on the outside, in addition to whatever processor and component improvements they make on the inside. Apple will likely also offer these alongside their stainless steel and aluminum models, should they actually be released this fall, and would probably charge a premium for these material options, too.

The Series 4 Apple Watch proved a serious improvement in terms of performance, and added features like the onboard ECG. Splashy new looks likely won’t be the extent of what Apple has planned for Series 5, however, especially since the company is revamping watchOS to be much more independent of the phone, which would benefit from more capable processors.
