LEAKED: Intel’s Latest 10th Generation Desktop CPUs – Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

The specifications of Intel’s new 10th-generation Comet Lake F-series desktop processors have apparently leaked, according to My Broadband via Tom’s Hardware.
Informática Cero, an Uruguayan tech website, discovered the leak. Showing part of a PowerPoint presentation containing the purported leaked information about the new processors.
The F-series chips were first introduced in Intel’s 9th-generation Coffee Lake processors. These chips use the same silicon as non-F-series processors sans integrated graphics functionality.
The leak shows that the company will launch two variants of each of the processors. Three KF processors with a thermal design power of 125W, and three less-powerful F versions with 65W.
The leaked specifications are as follows:
Sourced from Informática Cero
All six processors feature Intel Single Core Turbo capabilities, which is indicated as the Intel Turbo Boost Max speed in the table above.
Intel has recently fallen behind in terms of technology and sales against its largest competitor, AMD.
Not only has AMD launched several processors that employ its 7nm Zen 2 architecture – which is more powerful than any of Intel’s current stock of processors – but AMD’s Ryzen 3000 series of processors have nearly doubled any of Intel’s sales in certain regions.
Intel’s new Comet Lake processors are expected to launch in April 2020.

Adobe Photoshop gets new features for the desktop and iPad on its 30th birthday – Blog – 10 minute

In a nutshell: As is usually the case with birthdays, Photoshop also put on some weight after turning 30, albeit in the shape of several new feature updates and performance improvements across its desktop and iPad apps.
Photoshop, a byword for image editing and manipulation, crossed its 30th birthday recently. Although the software has faced stiff competition from several paid and free programs over the years, it continues to be one of the most feature-rich and complete products on the market today.
Adobe celebrated the milestone with a blog post announcing several new features for desktop and iPad users of Photoshop, starting with an enhanced Content-Aware Fill (CAF) workspace on PCs that allows for iteratively selecting and filling multiple areas of an image without having to leave the workspace window.
The next major feature for desktops is an improved Lens Blur filter that now uses the GPU to achieve a more realistic bokeh look for images. The updated algorithm is also able to generate blurrier edges on objects in front of the focal plane and can provide more colorful specular highlights in photos.

Users running macOS Catalina can now soothe their eyes with a dark mode for Photoshop that should blend nicely with the rest of the OS. There’s also a few under the hood changes to make the UI more responsive to mouse and stylus movements with smoother panning, dragging, and zooming. For those on Windows, the latest Photoshop update removes the need for WinTab drivers, mostly used by artists for supporting styluses or digitizer tablets.

Photoshop’s iPad app continues to catch up with the desktop version and receives the latter’s Object Selection tool for quickly selecting and isolating items of interest in an image. There are also new type settings, including layer, character, and options properties that enable text tracking, leading, scaling and formatting (caps, strikethrough, subscript, etc.) with kerning to arrive in a future release.

Adobe’s launch of Photoshop for iPad wasn’t well-received initially due to a lack of features, but the company has put out multiple releases in a span of three months to close the gap with its desktop counterpart and is shipping new capabilities “as soon as the user experience has been adapted to the iPad and reimagined to take advantage of touch and mobility.”
These latest updates should also help with improving file uploading and downloading speeds over the cloud, which Adobe says could end up being up to 90% faster, depending on file size and network performance.

YouTube’s classic desktop interface will be gone for good next month – Blog – 10 minute

In brief: Whether you like it or not, Google is phasing out the classic web interface for YouTube in March. The company also noted you’ll need an up-to-date browser to make sure you don’t miss out on all the features it’s added over the last few years.
Google introduced a new look for YouTube in 2017 for desktop browsers, which polarized its audience who either hated or loved the new experience. The company went on to make numerous tweaks, the last of which made video thumbnails a bit too large for comfort, prompting a wave of outrage from users all over the world.
However, the search giant has so far let users opt out of the new web interface and use the classic one instead. That changes next month, as Google says it will retire the older web interface, which means that you’ll soon have to get used to the dreaded Material revamp, which is the de facto UI for YouTube moving forward.
Those of you using older browsers (but why?) may also get a less than ideal experience, so you’ll have to update that to get the new UI to work correctly.

Google says the older web interface lacks many of the new features and design improvements introduced over the last three years, including a dark theme, picture-in-picture mode, and “top requests based on your feedback.” It seems the company is confident that users want larger thumbnails, longer video titles, and manually combing through videos to train the algorithm to stop recommending things that don’t match your interests.
The good news is that the transition won’t be abrupt, so if you’re still using the classic UI you’ll start seeing a notification that asks you to “Switch to the new YouTube.” The comments on YouTube’s support forum show that a lot of users are dissatisfied with how the new UI works on their desktops, so we’ll have to wait and see if Google decides to take that feedback into consideration.
To put things in perspective, Google is pushing the new YouTube because it’s trying to graduate it into a profitable business. Expect to see more notifications to sign up for YouTube Music and YouTube Premium, which have 20 million paying subscribers as of writing. Ad revenue for 2019 was $15.15 billion, but despite it being a strong 36.5 percent jump compared to 2018, the profit Google makes from that after covering costs is still nebulous for investors.
In the meantime, Google will continue tweaking the web interface, so let’s hope it will add a way to adjust the size of those thumbnails for those of us who want to make more efficient use of our screen real estate.

What Was The WhatsApp Desktop Flaw About?- Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

Read Article
In case you use WhatsApp chat on your computer, you would probably need to update WhatsApp desktop client. A researcher from PerimeterX, Gal Weizman has revealed that Facebook had patched a security vulnerability in WhatsApp’s Mac and Windows version. This lets attackers insert JavaScript into messages and remotely access files.
This is primarily because the software was running an older release of Google’s Chromium web engine (that was way back to version 69), along with known flaws that had made it relatively easy to slip in rogue code. Though, it wouldn’t have been difficult to alter messages, however, it is important to look for sensitive documents or install additional malware.
WhatsApp was built by Facebook on an Electron framework that makes it easier to deliver multi-platform apps that were based on web technology. The major flaw that had affected the WhatsApp’s desktop version 0.3.9309 and earlier, also people that had paired the app with WhatsApp’s iOS editions before 2.2.10.
However, if you downloaded the app recently, you are probably safe or at least vigilant about staying current. This also reminds us that web based apps aren’t safe automatically safe, and also that secure messaging is secure when you are on the top of upgrades.

WhatsApp desktop app vulnerabilities led to remote file access, code execution – Blog – 10 minute

In brief: Facebook has patched a critical security flaw in WhatsApp’s desktop platform that could have allowed an attacker to read files from the local file system on Windows and Mac and even pull off remote code execution.
The vulnerability, which carries a severity rating of 8.2 according to the National Institute of Standards and Technology, was discovered by security researcher Gal Weizman with PerimeterX.
Its origins date back to 2017 when he uncovered the ability to alter the text of someone else’s reply. From there, Weizman realized he could craft authentic-looking messages with rich media that redirected the target to a destination of his choosing. Parlaying his success even further, the security researcher was able to use JavaScript to gain a one-click persistent XSS.

Weizman pressed on and was eventually able to enhance the power of the persistent XSS by bypassing WhatsApp’s CPS rules. The coup de grâce was realizing that remote code execution was also possible.
After a bit of digging, the researcher realized that it all worked because the versions of the WhatsApp desktop applications being offered up by Facebook were based on Chrome 69, an outdated version of Google’s browser.

This vulnerability was found when Chrome/78 was the stable version! A few versions before Chrome/78, the ability to use the javascript: trick was patched, and if WhatsApp would have updated their Electron web application from 4.1.4 to the latest which was 7.x.x at the time this vulnerability was found(!) – this XSS would never have existed!

Facebook said the vulnerability, CVE-2019-18426, affects WhatsApp Desktop prior to v0.3.9309 paired with WhatsApp for iPhone versions prior to 2.20.10.
Weizman’s responsible disclosure of the vulnerability can be found in his PerimeterX blog post.

3 Amazon Price Tracking Tools For The Desktop Or Browser – Blog – 10 minute

Amazon has been the largest e-commerce retailer for years, and as the company has branched out into developing its own massively popular products, such as the Kindle Fire and Echo Dot, there’s no sign of it slowing down.
What was once a modest online book store is now a massive online marketplace that sells its own products directly and also allows third-party merchants to list items for sale. With such a hodgepodge of listings, the frugal and savvy are always looking for new ways to take advantage of Amazon’s deals.

Amazon holds large-scale sales very infrequently, it’s most popular being Prime Day, but prices are slashed and deals are launched every day—so many that it’s hard to keep track of.
However, to the benefit of thousands of shoppers, there are several online Amazon price tracking tools that aggregate Amazon’s millions of products and store price histories. In this article, let’s go over some of the best Amazon price tracking tools for your desktop or browser.
Keepa is our pick for the top Amazon price tracking tool in your browser. It’s supported through browser extensions on Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Edge, and even on mobile through the Firefox app.
Although Keepa does offer premium features, I’ve been using it freely for years now and it’s been the best way for me to track the perfect time to snag a product on Amazon.
After creating an account and installing one of Keepa’s browser extensions, it will automatically show price history charts on every Amazon product page.

This allows at-a-glance insight into the best time to purchase a product. This chart alone has saved me from purchasing products for tens of percentages above their frequent lowest prices, and that feels good.
Keepa will also allow you to set up individual price alerts for items directly on Amazon product pages.

When triggered, you can have these price notifications sent to your email, Facebook, Telegram, desktop notifications, or even an RSS feed.
Keepa makes Amazon price-tracking simple and intuitive, and I’ve found no sufficient reason to switch from it to a competing service.
CamelCamelCamel is surprisingly similar to Keepa. The main difference is the functionality of each’s website, rather than their browser extension. CamelCamelCamel’s website offers an Amazon price tracking tool, which offers very unorderly and inconsistent results. It feels like a step back from simply searching on Amazon directly.
CamelCamelCamel offers browser extensions to users of Firefox and Chrome, and its extension works almost identically to Keepa’s.
The key difference is that Keepa’s price charts embed into the Amazon page itself, whereas CamelCamelCamel’s are accessed via the extension’s icon in your browser’s toolbar. When you navigate to an Amazon product page, you’ll see the extension icon light up. Clicking it will bring up the product’s price chart.

The chart allows you to show or hide price types (Amazon, third-party new, and third-party used), and you can easily create price alerts directly from this pop-out by entering your desired price(s).
Choosing CamelCamelCamel over Keepa is a simple matter of if you require the more polished website features that Keepa provides, or if you prefer one’s charts over the other. Both work very similarly and well.
SlickDeals is very different from Keepa and CamelCamelCamel. It’s not a traditional Amazon price tracking service in the sense of keeping a database full of price histories. Instead, it relies entirely on the community to submit relevant deals.
There are pros and cons to this method of deal curation, but SlickDeals users have become masters of their craft over the years. SlickDeals was first to catch the $13,000 camera being sold for just $90 (an obvious price mistake) during Prime Day 2019, for example.
Amazon is all over SlickDeals, and it’s one of the official stores they list in their search results. This allows users to narrow deal alerts down to ones that only appear at Amazon.

While you may not be able to feed SlickDeals the URL of an Amazon product to monitor it for price fluctuations, what you can do is add a custom deal alert narrowed down to an exact store, category, brand, and keyword. As shown above, adding this alert would let me know the instant a user finds a deal for a Kingston DataTraveler flash drive on Amazon.
SlickDeals also has an official browser extension, but it functions more like Honey rather than Keepa or CamelCamelCamel. It’s more of a coupon tracker than a price tracker. One advantage SlickDeals does have over the other two trackers on this list, though, is an awesome app for both iOS and Android.
While it’s not necessarily an Amazon price tracking service, you won’t regret giving SlickDeals a try. You’ll be surprised to see the deals that the community finds!
Investing in the time to set up and maintain tracking on one of these three Amazon price tracking and deal-tracking services will pay dividends in the long run. If your goal is to become a more frugal shopper, definitely try out all three options listed above!

MSI shows off its futuristic, 5G-capable MEG Aegis Ti5 desktop – Blog – 10 minute

Something to look forward to: Most PC fans prefer putting together their own rigs rather than buying a pre-built system, but the latter option can have its advantages, such as coming with some unusual cases and features. MSI’s MEG Aegis Ti5, for example, has a dial, an OLED panel, and looks like something from the future. It’s also the “market’s first 5G-compatible desktop.”
We usually see weird and wonderful pre-built PCs at events such as CES, but the MEG Aegis Ti5 really stands out. The almost robotic design looks very cool, especially the way it’s raised off the surface, which would likely help airflow, but you’ll likely find your eye is drawn to the MSI Commander Unit, or MCU.
As reported by Tom’s Hardware, the MCU is an OLED display that provides real-time information from the PC, including notifications, statistics such as temperature, and even local weather reports. There’s also what MSI is calling a “gaming dial,” which allows users to make instant system adjustments.

Another impressive feature is the 5G support, which MSI says offers transfer speeds faster than both 4G and even wired connections, assuming you have access to a 5G network.
As you might imagine, the MEG Aegis Ti5’s internals are as impressive as its outer shell. While the specs haven’t been finalized, MSI said they should include the latest Core i9, Nvidia’s RTX 2080 Ti (or the company’s latest GPU), and 128GB of RAM. It also comes with three M.2 SSDs, two 2.5-inch drive bays, a 3.5-inch bay, and a 650W 80 Plus Platinum SFX. Additionally, it uses MSI’s Silent Storm 4 cooling setup, which keeps components in separate chambers to improve airflow.
Unsurprisingly, the MEG Aegis Ti5 doesn’t come cheap. There’s no official release date or price yet, but it’s estimated to be around $4,000 when it arrives, likely during the third quarter.

Pandora debuts a desktop app for Windows – gpgmail

Pandora today is launching a desktop app for Windows users following its debut of a native Mac app earlier this year. On Mac, Pandora offers a variety of features for desktop users, like on-screen notifications, keyboard controls, a way to select listening “modes” and more. It didn’t, however, include support for streaming podcasts. The new Windows app includes a similar feature set.

Update: The Windows Store app description mentions that at higher tiers you can stream podcasts. Pandora tells us this is not actually true of the app itself, however. It plans to support podcasts in the future, it says. We’ve removed references to podcast support from this article.

Above: Pandora’s Windows 10 app — note references to playing podcasts!

Like its Mac counterpart, Pandora’s Windows app can be used by both free users and paid subscribers alike.

The free users will have access to Pandora’s ad-supported stations, while Pandora Plus subscribers get ad-free stations, unlimited skips, personalized stations and up to four offline stations. Pandora Premium subscribers, meanwhile, get the same, plus the ability to make and share playlists, play albums and songs on-demand and take advantage of unlimited offline listening.

Also like the Mac app, the Windows version supports keyboard controls for doing things like playing, pausing, replaying, shuffling, thumbs up and down, etc. And it supports the Pandora Modes feature, which lets you refine your personalized stations by asking Pandora to focus more on certain types of songs — like crowd favorites, the discovery of new artists, deep cuts, songs from a select artist only, new releases and more.

Desktop users often prefer to use a native app instead of leaving a service open in a browser tab as it allows them a more seamless and integrated experience. That said, Pandora’s Mac version didn’t have the best reviews from Apple users.

Still, Pandora’s rollout of native desktop apps helps the SiriusXM-owned company better compete with rivals like Apple Music and Spotify, both of which have long offered desktop applications. In Apple’s case, it actually built so much into iTunes that the company decided to finally break it up into parts with the next version of macOS. Pandora doesn’t have the same problem, because it doesn’t include a user library or marketplace.

Windows users can download the Pandora app from the Microsoft Store starting today.

The app works on Windows 10. (Pandora also supports streaming to Xbox via the Microsoft Store app.)
