Australian Red Cross unifies digital experience for 270,000 stakeholders – Strategy – Projects – Software- Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

The Australian Red Cross has automated administrative tasks and provided a unified experience to 270,000 clients, donors, members and volunteers using Dell Boomi’s integration platform.
The move comes as part of a broader shift at the not-for-profit to modernise its IT estate and offer online self-service capabilities, such as the soon-to-be launched MyRedCross customer portal.
Connecting data from disparate core systems and third-party platforms was the first step in being able to develop the platform for Red Cross’ 75,000 regular donors in the first instance, before extending the capability to other clients, donors, supports and volunteers.
“If we don’t have integrated systems, we don’t have accurate or up-to-date data on which to base business decisions, and therefore can’t provide a personalised experience for our stakeholders,” Red Cross chief information officer Veronica Frost said.
“We offer so many services across Australia, it’s important we’re able to tailor our communications to the needs and interests of each person that is engaging with us.
“Personalisation leads to better experiences, but in order to personalise, we first needed to digitalise our operations.
“This meant connecting all our various systems so we could have a holistic view of our customers based on all the data available to us.”
Boomi was selected as the integration platform due to its “low-code”, drag-and-drop GUI, avoiding complex point-to-point integrations that would have required ongoing maintenance.
The MyRedCross project included the integration of EpiServer, Pivotal CRM, Okta identity management, InTech address validation, and Campaign Monitor marketing automation systems to produce a consistent and accurate data environment,
Further systems will be added from third parties and fundraising partners after the portal goes live early in the 2020-21 financial year.
One such integration will be the connection of point-of-sale terminals to the charity’s finance systems to handle in-store donations.
Multiple human resources systems will also be connected to maintain consistent employee and volunteering records and enable onboarding procedures to be automated.
Frost said the new portal will help the not-for-profit “make the most of [its] donor dollars” and direct resources to the community, rather than being wasted on overhead expenses.
“Boomi not only simplifies our integrations and the maintenance of our back-end infrastructure, it also enables us to streamline how we communicate with our stakeholders and will automate administrative tasks like employee and volunteering onboarding.
“Every dollar we can save from these tasks is another we can give back to the community through our various services.”
A cleaner data environment will also support future digital initiatives by speeding up foundational work, Frost added.

Facebook and Red Cross Launch #AfricaTogether | Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

Facebook and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement are partnering to launch #AfricaTogether – a digital campaign and two-day festival on June 4th and 5th featuring artists from across Africa to encourage continued vigilance against COVID-19.
With more than 100,000 coronavirus cases confirmed on the continent and containment measures easing in many countries, #AfricaTogether combines musical and comedic performances with information from COVID-19 first responders and fact-checkers from across Africa.
#AfricaTogether will include a festival with performances by artists such as Aramide, Ayo, Femi Kuti, Ferre Gola, Salatiel, Serge Beynaud, Patoranking, Youssou N’dour amongst many others, as well as a digital awareness campaign with prevention messages developed with Red Cross and Red Crescent health experts and targeting simultaneously Facebook users in 48 countries across sub-Saharan Africa.
The event will be streamed on Facebook Live on the 4th June in English and hosted by the Nigerian popular actor and comedian Basketmouth and in French on the 5th June by the renowned media personality Claudy Siar.

Facebook continues to work with governments across Sub-Saharan Africa, including partnering with organizations like health agencies and NGOs who are actively using its platforms to share accurate information about the situation.
It has also launched COVID-19 Information Centers in more than 40 countries, which provide real-time updates from health authorities and helpful articles, videos and posts about social distancing and preventing the spread of the virus.

Bots hit up Australian Red Cross 900 times for bushfire donations – Security- Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

The Australian Red Cross is being targeted by bots that have so far made almost 900 fraudulent applications for financial assistance from a $216 million bushfire relief fund.
Australian programs director Noel Clement told the Royal Commission into Tempemail Natural Disaster Arrangements on Tuesday that his organisation had seen “very significant cyber activity from the outset”.
“[This is] what we call bot applications, and the latest number I’ve seen is close to 900 of those received,” he said. 
“They’re electronically generated [applications for assistance].”
Clement said an additional “very large number of applications” for financial assistance had been flagged either as suspicious or difficult to verify the detail of.
Applications that had proven fraudulent were being referred to police, he said.
“Where applications are suspicious we continue to work through those with applicants,” he said.
“Where we identify that there is fraudulent intent we are referring those to police … but we intend to go back through more of those [suspicious] applications to determine if more of them should be referred.”
The Australian Red Cross raised a total of $216 million in donations for the victims of devastating bushfires over the summer of 2019-20, of which $83 million has so far been distributed.
Distribution is “very much done based on requests for assistance,” Clement said. 
“We reached out to all of those communities. We [also] respond to people who’ve sought assistance so that is on the basis of applications that have come to us or that we’ve supported.”
One of the challenges with distribution is that it is difficult to verify whether applications for relief are genuine or not, because there is no central register or agency in each state that made a list – for example – of addresses with property damage.
That appeared to make the Red Cross a target for fraud activity, hence the bots that have been detected filing reams of false claims.
“Our main challenges in distribution have firstly been identifying people who’ve been impacted,” Clement said.
“There’s been no single or shared list that we’ve been able to access that indicates to us particularly those greatly impacted, such as those whose homes were destroyed and damaged.
“One of the most significant challenges for us has been lack of access to good information to be able to verify that the people we are paying are those who’ve been impacted, particularly around things like destruction of property, and trying to minimise the impact on people through that verification process.”
Clement said the Red Cross was also challenged to ensure support was available in short, medium and long-term horizons, in keeping with the usual way disaster response unfolded.
“We know that disaster recovery is long term and we know that people need support at different stages in the short, medium and longer term,” he said.
“We know we need to work at the pace that people are ready to seek support. So we’re trying to work at that pace to make sure the support is available.”

Cialdini’s Scarcity still works, people are just savvier to it. Upsell in your email marketing using scarcity tactics and apply a bit of pressure to your buyer. Think about limited-time offers for first-time customers.
Your customer has already paid for your product before, they already trust your brand, which is the hard part. They’re willing to invest in you again, it’s just timing. Capitalize on this and offer them an upgrade/expansion/extension of your product that promises to provide them with a better service than the one they’ve already invested in.
What you need to ensure is that your scarcity efforts are not overcooked. It can be all too easy to scare someone off with scarcity tactics. Deleting an email is done in two clicks and will be done should you apply too much pressure.
Consumer Burnout is already a huge trend in 2020 and brands are rushing in to provide a service or product to address this. Brands are also answering burnout with brand messaging. Remember to be thoughtful with the tone and urgency you create.
Don’t scare people off but encourage them to seize the opportunities that arise. Like in the example above, Outsite has added emojis, labeled the upsell as members only, and used a term we’re all familiar with Early Birds.
Look to use similar scarcity tactics in your own email marketing strategy. There’s no time like the present.
Think Outside the Box
Visual storytelling works. Try to include images, videos, infographics as much as possible within your email marketing cross selling efforts. That being said you’ll need to make sure your email is optimized for the correct platform.
If you’ve been working in marketing for a while you’ll probably remember the time we all saw a shift in devices and suddenly it was: “mobile-first.”
This is not always the case. Just because everyone uses their phones much more than they used to doesn’t necessarily mean they’re engaging with your brand emails using their phone.
If your product is relatively expensive, you’ll be surprised by the number of people that prefer to do their research via desktop. Keep this in mind when designing the visual layout of your cross-selling emails. Identify what platform your customers are using and adapt accordingly to your company email marketing strategy.

 
Show that you care
This is trickier to do if you’re using an email list. However, if you have a good CRM platform then using integrations with an email marketing system could do wonders to help you show that you care.
Identify customer business needs. Whether this is done through an interactive form, a sales rep, or by identifying engagement with your previous emails. Take note of what your customer needs and find a product you offer that will help them to succeed or better their experience. Think “Customer success” rather than “sales”.
Personalize your efforts

Be it using a first name, business name, or industry your customers are in, personalized subject lines lead to emails that are 26% more likely to be opened. Personalization with your subject lines, preview text, and sender name can get you that open rate increase, but how can you increase your chances of cross-selling?
Do the same. Using personalization efforts in the body of your email gives the reader a more tailored experience and can go a long way. Take a look at the example above, my team at OneCoWork inserted not only my name into the body text of the email but my book as well. Of course, this was a “test” email before we sent out the real thing, but you get the idea.
Don’t be afraid to send “reminders”
This can work in both large and small business email marketing strategies. If you do see interactions with other products or services you’ve been trying to cross-sell don’t be afraid to identify abandoned carts or CTA click-throughs and send an email reminder.
This works exceptionally well with eCommerce, of course, don’t forget to include open-rate and click-through rate within your eCommerce KPIs. Be careful here though, these are the types of emails that are often viewed as Spam and sent straight to the corresponding box.
Be smart with your email copy, especially in your subject and preview lines. Frame your message as though you’re trying to help out someone who may be a little forgetful.
What’s more important is, give your reader an out. Ask them if they don’t intend to buy the product, acknowledge this, and don’t send them any more reminders. Respect their time.

Deputy vice chancellor (academic), Professor Tyrone Carlin, said it’s the biggest increase in overall domestic student load so far this year.
“We’ve been able to leverage our online expertise, and while we aren’t sure of the timeframe for when classes will be held on campus again, the programs we’re offering online have enabled a superb continuity of delivery for our students,” Carlin said.
That continuity has even extended to students caught up in China’s initial lockdown, who were able to successfully sit their exams online in a situation likely to be mirrored in Australia at the end of the current semester.
It also helps that Youth Allowance, Austudy and Abstudy payments for students have doubled as part of the COVID-19 stimulus packages announced by the federal government.
Senior manager of student management at SCU, Paul Robinson, added that a number of the applicants are returning to higher education to upskill as the unprecedented impacts of the coronavirus force industries from aviation to retail to stand down thousands of workers.
Both new and existing students can also benefit from the university’s auxiliary services, which also made the move online.
Robinson said that includes students support services like administration, counselling, chaplaincy programs, career advice , advocacy and library services.
“We do look forward to when we can welcome thousands of students back onto our beautiful campuses, but as always we will continue to have a strong and supported online cohort when that happens,” Carlin added.

Facebook-owned messaging app WhatsApp said on Wednesday it has amassed 2 billion users, becoming the second social media platform in the world to hit that milestone.
WhatsApp did not specify how it calculated the number of users, but said it had 500 million users in 2014, when Facebook Inc bought the mobile-messaging startup for $19 billion to boost its popularity, especially among a younger crowd.
