Coronavirus Impact: Cognizant Withdraws 2020 Revenue Growth Forecast- Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

Read Article
Information Technology services major Cognizant on Thursday said it is withdrawing its growth forecast for 2020 given the uncertainty in environment amid the coronavirus outbreak. The U.S.-based company, which has over two lakh employees in India, said it expects its March quarter revenue to be within its previously guided range of 3.4-3.6 percent growth (in constant currency) from the year-ago previously guided range of 3.4-3.6 percent growth (in constant currency) from the year-ago period.
“The long-term fundamentals of our business remain strong. However, given the unprecedented nature of this crisis, uncertainty around its duration and its impact on our ability to forecast performance, the company is withdrawing its 2020 guidance that was provided on Feb. 5, 2020,” Cognizant said in a statement. Cognizant will announce its first-quarter financial results on May 7.
For 2020, Cognizant had said it expects its revenue growth to be in the range of 2-4 percent in constant currency. The company said that entering the second quarter, it expects the pandemic to further reduce client demand as its societal and economic impact causes broader disruptions across industries.
“We acted decisively to limit Covid-19’s impact on our business, including rapidly enabling work-from-home capabilities across our delivery teams. We will continue to take steps to protect our associates and support the evolving needs of clients in today’s environment,” Cognizant Chief Executive Officer Brian Humphries said.
Cognizant noted that its financial performance in the months of January and February was “on track to exceed previous guidance”, driven by strong performance across the North America market. During the latter part of March, Covid-19 increasingly affected Cognizant’s business, it added.
This was largely due to delays in project fulfillment as delivery, particularly in India and the Philippines, shifted to work-from-home, and there was reduced client demand, primarily in the travel and hospitality industries, the company said. Cognizant had previously said its employees in India and the Philippines, who are at the associate level and below, will receive an additional payment of 25 percent of their base pay for April. The move is expected to benefit over 1.30 lakh Cognizant employees in India.
Additionally, Cognizant has standardised 14 days of sick-leave coverage globally for Covid-19 cases or self-quarantine without impacting other sick leave or vacation programs.

Less than 50% of Women Studying STEM-related Courses Consider it a Career, report says | Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

Sourced from Tech Cabal

TechCabal has released the Nigerian Women in Tech Report which examines the distribution and level of involvement of women in Nigeria’s technology and STEM fields.

Just spent the last 2 hours doing the same. The report was so well documented and twas good to see substantial evidence to the issues at hand for #womeninSTEM, and the recommendations from real people.
Welldone @TechCabal https://t.co/bvmf2OM9Tr
— Wamide (WamWam) Egunjobi (@whamhydhe) April 4, 2020

The report, which is available for free download, looks at the gaps that exist in women participation, show challenges and highlight recommendations for improvement. It also puts the spotlight on 21 women entrepreneurs, c-suite executives and 7 women developers working in the Nigerian technology industry.
“Notwithstanding decades of progress towards workplace equality, women remain underrepresented in Nigeria’s technology workforce. We’ve embarked on this report to showcase the arena where women in technology play across Nigeria, and the contribution to the big picture when we look at it through the lens of STEM,” said Tomiwa Aladekomo, CEO at Big Cabal Media.

Key findings in the report:

More than 65% of the female STEM university students surveyed applied for those courses as a result of their passion and interests as against being pressured by their parents to do so or because it was the only available option.
59% of the survey respondents admit to facing challenges in their course of study, however, over 75% of the same respondents say that the challenges are not gender-related. Despite the challenges faced, 54% of them feel happy about studying the course.
Less than 50% of the female students surveyed see themselves having a STEM-related career in the next 5 – 10 years.
The majority of the founders surveyed – 55.6% said that the challenges they faced were gender-based while many of the developers surveyed didn’t feel this way. 83% of the latter felt that their challenges weren’t gender-based.
The number and percentage of female developers in the tech companies we surveyed are increasing with each passing year, which shows that there is a growing interest in women’s participation in the tech field.

Helping Companies Track the Remote Work Journey- Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

Read Article
By Nico Fischbach
As I talk to security leaders, whether that means CISOs, Chief Risk Officers (CROs), or Data Protection Officers (DPOs), it’s clear that many companies are tracking against a similar journey as they adapt to a new way of working. Ultimately, success often depends on partnership and strong ties with other key leaders in their organization, especially the CIO or CTO. If we consider last week as the starting point in the timeline, here’s what company security and IT infrastructure leaders are working through
Week One – A network-centric and communications medium focus
Our customers who had a business continuity plan to rely on started there. At this stage in the journey, customers focused on enabling remote workers and on scaling Internet access and VPN capacity to accommodate large groups of remote users. Next, they started to dive into access-to-application capacity testing as well as making access rules more granular (for example at a country, departmental or when possible, at the application level) to make sure NGFWs and VPN access scaled to meet overall business needs while managing security exposure. This first part was about ensuring enough bandwidth to support a massive wave of remote workers in short order. Next was making sure to enable collaboration at scale, by operating in near-real time when it comes to e-Tempemail, instant messaging and file sharing, with a good user experience when it comes to audio and video conferencing.
Week Two (the current week we’re in) – Focused on application access
For many customers, this week is consumed by ensuring access to both legacy and cloud apps at an extended level. And this includes getting a handle on the SaaS applications that have been activated to address bottlenecks or gaps identified during week one. It’s about making sure business runs smoothly across the company and the friction can be reduced as much as possible. This may mean rolling out broader remote access to a larger number of workers who need to access legacy apps through a VPN. It may also mean making existing cloud apps available to larger groups of employees, or rolling out a video conference solution from select departments to the whole company, or maybe wider access to collaboration apps. There’s a sense of urgency to ensure all employees have access to the tools that help them get work done remotely and adjusting to the local “office” constraints, e.g. the capped bandwidth limits at home or the shared use of computers in some cases.
There’s a risk on this front I’m warning customers about: the sense of urgency also extends to remote workers. They are eager to get access to the apps they need to be effective, which sometimes means creating accounts to access free or premium versions of cloud apps, i.e. shadow IT making a comeback. Also, in times like these, where employees might be setting up apps, they may fall victim to sophisticated phishing attacks that look remarkably like the legitimate setup processes they’re trying to work through. End result, security teams should expect increases in phishing attacks meant to hijack employee credentials. It’s a good time to remind employees of this reality to help them be better prepared.
Week Three – Time to fine tune, focus on data and a first “lessons learned” review
Next week, as companies start shifting from a critical operations business continuity mindset to one that is more business-as-usual -one that is likely to last-they will most likely focus more time and energy around fine-tuning and making access to networks and applications more granular, as well as reviewing their security posture to include their data protection needs. It’s a given that most companies leveraged the cloud to help scale over the past few weeks.
In week three, I also expect some customers to focus on data protection. As more employees access cloud apps and want to overcome bandwidth limitations by storing data locally, there will be a greater need to get a handle on how to secure the workarounds: employees using personal cloud storage solutions to store work-related files if they didn’t have access to the corporate editions, or employees emailing work-related files via their personal free email accounts to circumvent file size limitations. In many cases, that means researching data loss prevention (DLP) solutions as well as how cloud access security broker (CASB) solutions could help with their brand new or expanded and distributed hybrid IT system.
Beyond technology, this is a time to assess lessons learned from invoking business continuity to better understand what to transfer to “business-as-usual” operations in order for the business to move ahead. As an example, at Forcepoint we analyzed data gathered during our remote work tests from a couple weeks ago (we shut offices two consecutive days pre-lockdown to test work-from-home at scale) to assess where we need to put more resources, validate processes and identify gaps early – as a leadership team. It’s also showing us which areas of the business are experiencing little to no impact. Understanding this data also tells us where we need to revise our business continuity plan or if our plan is working as designed.
Some companies don’t have a complete business continuity plan in place or they may need to update the one they have. As this becomes the new way of working for the foreseeable future, this is a foundational aspect of keeping a business operational. Additionally, good business continuity plans can also help mitigate negative long-term impacts to business.

Coronavirus pandemic to hurt IT services sector: ICRA- Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

Read Article
The Indian IT Services industry is expected to have short term adverse impact due to coronavirus outbreak. As per an ICRA note, the sector is expected to grow at 3-5% in FY2021 versus ICRA’s earlier expectation of 6-8%. With the slowdown in growth during the first half of FY2021, the margins will also be negatively impacted before a likely recovery in FY2022. However, the credit profile of Indian IT Services companies is expected to remain stable.
Explaining this further, Gaurav Jain, Vice President, ICRA says, “The global spread of the coronavirus is resulting in simultaneously supply and demand shocks. We expect these shocks to materially slow economic activity. The US and the Euro zone which generates more than 80% of IT Services export revenues will see their GDP growth fall from 2.3% and 1.2% in CY2019e to 1.5% and 0.7% respectively in CY2020 (Source: Moody’s Investor Services). The forecast assumes gradual recovery during the second half of the year, however the evolution of virus remains highly uncertain and the full extent of the economic costs remain unclear at this point of time.”
On the demand side, developed economies which contribute to majority of the revenues will see delayed off-take of scheduled new projects, reduced discretionary spend as well as overall lower spend owing to sluggish economic growth. The BFSI vertical (30% of sector revenues) which is already seeing weakness across US and Europe will be further impacted primarily owing to short term impact of coronavirus on economic growth, lower credit off-take and other banking services. Other key sectors such as Oil and gas will be impacted because of record low crude oil prices leading to reduced discretionary spends by such companies. Manufacturing sector which has been one of the key growth drivers is also expected to be adversely hit due to overall lower consumption. Travel and Hospitality followed by Retail will be impacted as consumers will restrict outdoor activities to essentials in the foreseeable future.
On the supply side, Indian IT services will face issues such as travel restrictions to developed countries as well as closure of offices / work from home at various offshore development centers as well as onshore thereby impacting movement of labour. At the initial stages of projects, movement of labour at client’s site is essential while later the same can be managed remotely. New projects to be commissioned will be delayed by minimum of 3-6 months while projects in pipeline will also face delays.
As growth slows down during the first half of FY2021, the margins will be adversely impacted though ICRA expect them to gradually recover in FY2022. The margins for the Indian IT Services are already facing challenging operating environment characterised by continued pressure on commoditised IT services, wage inflation, higher onsite costs necessitated by visa curbs as well as lower discretionary spend by corporate. ICRA expects large size companies with diversified presence across sectors to manage such headwinds better compared to mid-size companies which have moderately high proportion of revenues coming from few sectors. Nevertheless, the credit profile of Indian IT Services companies is expected to remain stable underpinned by its ability to sustain free cash flows despite pressure on short term revenue growth and margins.
“With aggregate operating margins of ICRA sample set at 22.0% in FY2020e (FY2019 at 22.4%) coupled with moderate capex (organic as well as inorganic) and working capital requirements, the free cash flows have remained robust historically. Despite growth and margins expected to remain under pressure over the medium term, these factors are unlikely to impact the free cash flow generation ability of Indian IT Services companies though there could be moderation in the quantum of such cash flows. The credit profile is also supported by net cash position with significant liquidity in the form of surplus investments generated out of past cash flows. Our sample set (13 leading companies) will report surplus liquidity (net of debt) of approximately Rs. 1,651 billion March 2020e despite maintaining healthy dividend pay-out of approximately 35-40% of profits in addition to share buybacks,” adds Mr. Gaurav Jain.

Apps built by IISc and IITs are helping fight Covid! Here’s How- Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

From “GoCoronaGo” to “Sampark-o-Meter”, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and four Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have developed several mobile applications to aid the fight against coronavirus in the country. The app “GoCoronaGo” has been developed by a team at IISc which can help identify people who may have crossed paths with COVID-19 suspects.
“The app will help identify people who may have crossed paths with COVID-19 positive individuals or suspects by tracking their interactions in the past using Bluetooth and GPS. It uses temporal network analytics in the backend to understand the risk propensity even for distant contacts, understand disease spread and identify high-risk people who are likely to contract and spread the virus,” Tarun Rambha, a faculty member at IISc, told PTI.
“It also provides alerts on isolation and proximity scores and helps enhance social distancing. It also has a geofencing feature for those who are under quarantine, and has the ability to provide their symptoms which is used in the risk evaluation,” Rambha added.
A B.Tech student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar has developed a mobile-based app called “Sampark-o-Meter” which can indicate areas on maps with maximum coronavirus infection possibility. “The app generates a ‘risk score’ after considering various factors and can alert people to take precautionary measures including self-isolate or consulting a doctor. The app would facilitate users to estimate the corona sampark risk rating.

Work from home? No problem as IBM India is doing it almost 100%- Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

Read Article
Scaling its infrastructure to meet the high demand for online traffic and enabling employees to be highly productive has helped IBM India make a successful transition to work from home, a top company executive said. The 21-day lockdown due to COVID-19 has forced many organisations to adopt the work from home culture.
“Our IT, HR, Business Units, Crisis Management, Legal, Government Relations, CSR, Operations and Security teams have quickly come together to make WFH a reality for over 99 per cent of IBM India employees,” Sandip Patel, Managing Director, IBM India Pvt Ltd and General Manager IBM India/South Asia wrote in a LinkedIn post.
The remaining less than 1 per cent of employees at IBM India are focused on mission critical assignments and we are taking every possible precaution to ensure their safety, he said.
“As IBMers, we have always embraced the values of trust and personal responsibility, so the concept of having our employees work from home as the need arises has been at the very core of how we operate as a company. What has been different in the past few months is embracing this approach at scale, not just among our sizable employee population in India, but around the world,” added Patel.
He said that the successful transition required the company to solve two major challenges.
“…the first is around scaling our infrastructure to meet the high demand for online traffic, and the second, which involved enabling our employees to be highly productive in the new distributed way of working,” he said.
As a provider of cloud computing solutions for clients, IBM had an advantage in terms of meeting the first challenge.
“The second challenge relates more to organisational culture and whether you have the practices in place to facilitate virtual collaboration and enable rapid decision making. This isn’t simply having video conferencing — it’s about whether employees understand how to work remotely as a team, how to access business critical information, and the ability to embrace agile work practices in virtual workplace,” Patel said.

Apple 2020 iPad Pro 12.9in review: the best mobile tablet can now get real work done | Technology – Blog – 10 minute

The 2020 iPad Pro takes 2018’s wow-factor redesign and beefs up the camera on the back with lidar (light and radar) technology, commonly used in self-driving cars, not tablet computers.
Apple re-invented the iPad Pro in 2018 with a stunning design featuring large, beautiful screens with thin bezels, Face ID instead of a Touch ID home button, and squared-off sides.
The new £769 iPad Pro is essentially identical and just as stunning two years on as the original, here reviewed in its larger 12.9in form starting at £969 plus the Smart Keyboard Folio costing £199.

The USB-C port in the side takes care of charging, but can be used to connect peripherals too
The tablet has four excellent speakers in the sides, a USB-C port, magnetic wireless charger for the Apple Pencil stylus and a little pogo-pin smart connector on the back for keyboard cases. There’s no headphones socket though.
The camera lump has grown on the back, mirroring that used on the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro, featuring a dual camera system and the lidar scanner – more on those in a moment.
Specifications

Screen: 12.9in 2732×2048 Liquid Retina display (264 pixels per inch)

Processor: Apple A12Z Bionic

RAM: 6GB

Storage: 128, 256, 512 GB or 1TB

Operating system: iPadOS 13.4

Camera: 12MP wide, 10MP ultrawide and Lidar scanner, 7MP TrueDepth selfie camera

Connectivity: Wifi 6 (4G optional, eSim), Bluetooth 5, USB-C, Face ID

Dimensions: 280.6 x 214.9 x 5.9mm

Weight: 641g (4G version: 643g)

Power and battery life

The back of the tablet is smooth aluminium, with the Smart Connector at the bottom and the large camera lump at the top left
The Apple A12Z Bionic processor is the same as the A12X Bionic used in the 2018 iPad Pro, but with an eight-core GPU instead of seven. It performs the same: fast and smooth.
Apple says the iPad Pro is more powerful than many full-blown computers; certainly Affinity Photo was faster performing the same complex edits on the iPad Pro than on the new MacBook Air with an Intel Core i3 chip.
Battery life wasn’t quite as good as the previous model when tested in 2018. The new iPad Pro manages more than eight hours of constant work between charges; enough for day’s work and watching a video on the commute home but not quite the 1.5 days working-day battery that 2018’s model managed.
Part of this discrepancy could be explained by the upgrade from iOS 12 to the more capable iPadOS 13.4, which does more, often concurrently, so will be more power hungry – but also more useful. With lighter use, such as reading or watching offline movies, the iPad Pro lasts well over nine hours between charges.
Charging the 12.9in iPad Pro with the included folding 18W charger took three hours 20 minutes from flat. Using 45W charger shaved more than an hour off that time.
Sustainability
Apple does not give a rated lifecycle for the iPad Pro, typically 500 full-charge cycles, but it can be replaced for £99. The tablet is generally repairable, with the out-of-warranty service cost being £616.44, which includes the screen. The iPad Pro was only awarded a three out of 10 for repairability by the specialist iFixit.
The iPad Pro has 100% recycled tin in the solder of its main board, flash and wireless charger and at least 35% recycled plastic used in multiple components. Apple is also using renewable energy for final assembly of the machine, and breaks down the tablet’s environmental impact in its report.
Apple also offers trade-in and free recycling schemes, including for non-Apple products.
iPadOS 13.4

Apple split iOS into a version for the iPhone and iPadOS for its tablet computers, bringing meaningful changes to take advantage of the large screen and power of the iPad Pro
Since splitting iOS into iPadOS for Apple’s tablets and iOS for its smartphones, the iPad line has gained significant utility more befitting of a tablet computer.
The big new addition for iPadOS 13.4 is Bluetooth or USB-C mouse and trackpad support, an update available for a large range of iPads, not just the iPad Pro.
You don’t quite get a mouse pointer on-screen like a Mac. Instead you get a morphing blob that changes shape when near actionable items. A caret appears when over text like a Mac, but when you go near a button the cursor jumps to it, morphing into a light-grey rectangle highlighting the button. This instant selection reduces the precision required to click something obvious.
A trackpad is the best option for the iPad as it opens up a load of gestures many of which are similar to those on a Mac. Highlights include two-finger scrolling, three/four/five-finger swipes replicating iPadOS’s navigation gestures (up for home etc), and a five-finger pinch to see recently used apps. You can even two-finger or right click, which brings up what would be the tap-and-hold menu on icons and items.

Trackpad support in iPadOS 13.4 is a game-changer for working on the iPad Pro, here highlighting the share button in Safari
The interface and cursor have a bit a momentum too. For instance, you can click the time to get to notifications or battery icon to get to quick settings, or you can fling the cursor to each respective cursor with a bit of force instead. To bring up the dock you need to fling the cursor to the bottom of the screen. It’s surprisingly fun, if using a cursor on a screen could ever be described as such.
Not all the usual interactions you expect are supported, such as a lack of hover-over for tool tips, which stops some functions in web apps from working. Some buttons also refuse to click, such as the back arrow in Evernote. Clearly, some third-party app developers will need to do some work.
Overall, trackpad and mouse support is fairly transformative for the iPad Pro as a work machine attached to a keyboard. It adds much-needed precision for text selection, working in spreadsheets and other office duties, while also reducing the strain of constant prodding of the screen.
Lidar and camera

The dual-camera and lidar lump on the back of the iPad Pro
The big new hardware addition to the iPad Pro for 2020 is a new dual-camera setup, similar to that used on the iPhone 11, and a lidar sensor.
The cameras are good for a tablet, but not as good as those on the iPhone 11. Fine for random snaps, but a phone is likely better for keepsakes.
The front-facing 7-megapixel camera is excellent for video calls – infinitely better than those fitted to Apple’s laptops. I wish it was fitted to the top in landscape, rather than portrait, which would be far better for use in a keyboard case.
The lidar sensor aids augmented reality (AR) apps. It measures the distance to objects up to 5 metres away, allowing more accurate placement of virtual objects into the real world, particularly when they’re placed behind real objects.

The lidar allows the iPad Pro to scan the real world for better AR experiences, such as the more accurate measure app
The measure app, for instance, is more accurate, as is Ikea’s furniture visualisation app. Other than the occasional points of interest, I have yet to be convinced of AR experiences through a tablet or a phone.
Therefore lidar feels like a future-proofing addition that will be useful at some stage, once apps that can truly take advantage of it have appeared.
Observations

Face ID is immediate and seamless on a tablet that’s propped up at a working angle – why Apple hasn’t put this excellent technology in its laptops is a mystery.

Face ID continues to be great

Base models of the 2020 iPad Pro come 128GB of storage, twice as much as its predecessor

Price
The 2020 iPad Pro comes in space grey or silver, in two screen sizes, four storage options and versions with or without 4G.
The wifi-only 11in iPad Pro costs £769 with 128GB of storage, £869 with 256GB, £1,069 for 512GB and £1,269 for 1TB. It costs £150 to add 4G to any of the storage versions.
The wifi-only 12.9in iPad Pro costs £969 with 128GB of storage, £1,069 with 256GB, £1,269 for 512GB and £1,469 for 1TB. It costs £150 to add 4G capability to any of the storage versions, which is especially useful for working on the go, but requires another mobile broadband subscription.
The Apple Pencil costs £119 and the Smart Keyboard Folio costs £179 for the 11in iPad Pro and £199 for the 12.9in iPad Pro. Apple’s Magic Keyboard with integrated trackpad will cost £299 for the 11in and £349 for the 12.9in iPad Pro shipping in May.
For comparison, Microsoft’s Surface Pro X costs from £999 and the Surface Pro 7 costs from £799 without keyboards.
Verdict
The 2020 iPad Pro is very much the 2018 model plus added cameras and lidar.
It’s a feature that improves AR and may prove transformative down the line. But AR on a tablet remains niche.
Instead the big changes are software as part of iPadOS 13.4, which is also available for older models. It makes the iPad Pro more of a full computer replacement than ever.
I can finally get every part of my work done on the tablet, without resorting to hacky work-arounds or finishing on a PC. This review was written and edited, the photos imported and edited, and finally the lot inserted into the Guardian’s backend systems, something I’ve simply not been able to do before all on an iPad.
The 12.9in screen was big enough not to feel cramped, while some tasks were faster and others slower than when working on a Mac or PC. But, finally, the answer to the ever-present question hanging over the iPad Pro of “can you get real work done on an iPad” is: yes. And without massive adjustments too.
It may not be much different from the last one, but the 2020 iPad Pro is the very best mobile tablet you can buy – which it absolutely should be for at least £969 for the 12.9in version – and arguably a solid laptop or PC replacement.

Pros: good battery life, fast, beautiful screen, optional 4G, USB-C, great speakers, Face ID, mouse support, capable work PC replacement, lidar
Cons: very expensive, no kickstand without case, no headphone socket, will still need a PC for some tasks

The all-screen design, thin profile, squared-off sides and rounded corners still look fantastic two years on

New regulation wave coming to safeguard businesses from hackers- Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

As cybercriminals pose new challenges to legitimate businesses, countries across the world will see increased regulation on a variety of topics from a variety of regulators in 2020 and beyond, a new report has stressed.
According to the KPMG report, in Asia, specifically, we’ve seen new regulations around cyber security where they’ve actually used the word “cyber.”
Previously, the regulations in that region used the word “technology,” which had an IT connotation.
“The increased precision is a welcome development. With so many countries having issued rules to comply with certain elements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), or their own privacy laws, we’re seeing — especially with larger multinational companies — the creation of new, proactive data management departments,” noted the report titled “All hands on deck: Key cyber security considerations for 2020”.
Businesses are looking to master data analytics as a discipline and understand not only where the data is located across the organization, but also who owns it, what’s being done with it, and, perhaps most critically, what rights and permissions users have in relation to that data.
“Successful ongoing cyber resilience will require the strategic alignment of cyber strategies with incident response, business continuity and disaster recovery planning. We’ve got to involve the entire enterprise — from front office to back,’ stressed Akhilesh Tuteja, Global Cyber Security Co-Leader, KPMG International.
Companies need to think differently about how to protect their competitive advantage and develop new models with a goal of becoming and remaining cyber secure.
Cyber security professionals need to demonstrate they can protect the heart of the transformed business with an agility of thought and action that recognises the pace and speed at which cybercriminals operate.
The report picked six key cyber considerations that will shape the way people approach security in 2020: Aligning business goals with security needs; digital trust and consumer authentication; the evolving security team; the next wave of regulation; cloud transformation and resilience; and automating the security function.
Companies are recognizing the need for additional investment, not just in tooling and process development, but in terms of a lack of cyber talent, from cyber governance and risk strategy to configuration and maintenance.
“There’s still a large gap in this space, and, unfortunately, many companies hire IT professionals who lack cyber security perspective in relation to the regulatory environment. The result is advice that is often ineffective or well intentioned, but misunderstood or inadequately implemented by management and the board,” the findings showed.
Companies are encouraged to shift their focus from systems and technology to information.
“Pinpoint what it is that makes you competitive in the market. It could be intellectual property, or your supply chain, or your pricing power. Whatever it is, that’s what you need to protect from a cybersecurity perspective,’ the report elaborated.
Ascertain what Artificial Intelligence (AI) is able to handle and what truly requires the nuance of human thought.
Challenge yourself to automate the basic controls in your security environment. Shoot for at least 50 percent.
“Finally, advocate for cyber security to be a prominent feature in the organization’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) agenda to demonstrate your comprehensive view of cyber security governance and ability to handle a broad array of incidents,” the report mentioned.

Lenovo DCG Aims To Be The Data Center Partner Of Choice in India And Across The Globe- Tempemail – Blog – 10 minute

Read Article
Lenovo has been heralding the power of connectedness in this process, via the use of big data, AI, IoT and computing algorithms, to enhance the human experience. How do such giant firms cope up with crisis situations as now, and how does technology come to the aid?
Gairika Mitra finds out.
Inputs by  Vivek Sharma, MD – India, Lenovo DCG
Do you perceive that the tech sector is going to see an upsurge in the near future amid the current pandemic?
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt businesses and the communities in which we live and work in. As companies adjust to the pressures of COVID-19, it is imperative that we continue to prioritize the health of employees and support communities around the globe as best as we can.
We see technology playing a key role in addressing near-term challenges in the wake of COVID-19 – especially as healthcare, education and corporates move to digitize in order to continue running. Mandatory quarantine measures around the globe to contain the coronavirus are resulting in a seismic shift to remote working. Data centers globally are coming under strain to serve the increased volumes of web traffic from everyone working and consuming entertainment at home. Now more than ever, people are looking to the IT industry to help manage this and ensure continuity of operations.
We are working closely with many of our customers to help them adapt to the challenges of these ‘new normal’ circumstances as seamlessly as possible. Lenovo Data Center Group offerings include a complete client virtualization and virtual desktop solution coupled with technical services to help customers get their IT infrastructure up and running quickly. When it comes to services, Lenovo’s premier support offers end-to-end customer technical support for working remotely and we also offer advanced deployment services with cloud provisioning that automates deployment for a simple, out-of-box experience that lets users self-serve (regardless of location).
However, looking more long term, we foresee huge growth in IoT adoption as businesses and supply-chains look to automate even more of their processes. In fact, it is a market that NASSCOM predicts will reach USD 15 billion by 2020, representing nearly 5% of the total global market. We already see verticals like healthcare, manufacturing and automotive heavily adopting IoT to ‘smartify’ their businesses.
The next evolution of computing demands integrated solutions that can process data quickly and efficiently between core data center functions and the edge. Every company in the world will win or lose based on their ability to capture, make sense of, and use data they collect from the physical, connected world – making data a hugely valuable business asset.
Businesses must dramatically change the way their IT operates and delivers value to the organization, and this means transitioning to the next generation of data centers with smart and easy to integrate solutions.
What is the idiosyncratic offering of Lenovo DCG, that’s differentiable from other players in the market?
At Lenovo, Intelligent Transformation is at the heart of everything we do. Extending this belief as a value proposition to our customers and partners, we focus on three key building blocks for enabling Intelligent Transformation: data, computing power and algorithms:

Data fuels all possibilities and smart devices play an important role in generating and connecting this data.
Computing power is the engine that turns this fuel into power.
Advanced algorithms combined with Big Data and industry know-how produce valuable insights that create value for every industry.

As such, we have invested in AI and machine learning, 5G and placed a premium on connected devices from the edge to the core. We see ourselves as the only company that can unify all these essential assets to deliver end-to-end solutions that create value globally.
Within the Data Center Group (DCG), our aim is to be the data center partner of choice for all types of organizations in India and across the globe. We need to ensure that our customers and partners grow with us, and that means putting their needs and needs of the market at the heart of everything we do, by providing greater choice and seamless, high-quality performance without the heavy lifting and complexity.
For example, Lenovo’s TruScale offering is unique from what’s currently on the market as it is a true consumption-based model with no required minimum capacity. The consumption-based offering allows customers to only pay for capacity when their workloads are actively running. As customers are only billed on power consumption, Lenovo has no access to customer data.
Lastly, our work has produced an efficient supply chain that can operate on a global level. Some of our achievements have also come through important, long-standing partnerships with other leading technology companies including Intel, Microsoft, AMD, VMware, NetApp, Nutanix and more, which allow us to tailor the best solution for each individual customer. Our priority is in helping businesses grow and become more productive, which means building solutions based on what is best for the customer, based on a wide range of high-performance technologies from our partners and us – and all avoiding vendor lock-in.
What are the technical offerings of Lenovo contemporarily?
Lenovo delivers a comprehensive portfolio of unique engineered solutions built through our worldwide partner ecosystem, which includes industry-leading brands such as Nutanix, Red Hat, SAP, and VMware. We are one of the first vendors to leverage Optane memory on SAP HANA workload with up to 12.5x faster recovery. We have a truly complete suite of solutions that addresses the needs of businesses across a range of industries:
HCI – ThinkAgile Series
ThinkAgile HX: The Lenovo ThinkAgile HX series combines Nutanix software with Lenovo’s highly reliable and scalable servers that are fully integrated, tested, and configured so businesses can accelerate time to value and reduce infrastructure maintenance.
Think Agile VX: The VX series leverages our partnership with VMware, simplifies and modernizes IT infrastructure to an environment that provides fine-grained scalability, high-performance, and world-class reliability.
ThinkAgile MX1021: Based on ThinkSystem SE350, the recently launched ThinkAgile MX1021 harnesses the power of Microsoft Azure Stack HCI at the edge to reduce latency and analyze data where it’s produced, providing secure data movement directly to the data center or to Azure in the public cloud.
Storage: The ThinkSystem DM series delivers a portfolio of enterprise-grade, multiprotocol storage systems that increase performance as well as capacity. Lenovo’s second portfolio, the ThinkSystem DE series, is designed for mid-sized IT environments and supports block storage protocols.
ThinkSystem DM7100: This is a new storage solution that accelerates and protects data with integrated Azure cloud tiering and mobility capabilities, ideal for customers deploying end-to-end enterprise Azure-based solutions that need instant access to business-critical data in volume.
Hyperscale: Lenovo’s TruScale Infrastructure Services offer a ‘pay-for-what-you-use’ model, enabling organizations to meet infrastructure needs and eliminate large time and capital commitments.
HPC and AI: Lenovo is an industry leader in supercomputing globally.  We extended our number one position in the Top 500 Supercomputing list to 173 systems across 20 markets (as of June 2019) and the largest global provider of TOP500 installations. 17 of 25 top research universities run Lenovo.
An example of our results-driven approach is our work with financial services provider, Ashika Group.  To help manage their mission critical data, through the Lenovo-Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure, we helped them improve uptime by 99.9%, enhancing their delivery approach and responsiveness to clients.
Do you think technology is reliable in the long run? Are there any major follies per se that can be highlighted?
Dependence on technology today is not a choice but a need. Smart gadgets, smartphones, laptops and tablets have immensely influenced the way we function today, and our world would undoubtedly be less exciting without them.
There is no better example of the role technology plays in our lives than what we are experiencing now amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Technology is enabling millions of businesses around the globe to continue running as their employees work from home. It is also keeping us entertained and connected to our loved ones.
At Lenovo, we are working hard to ensure our customers can adapt to these circumstances by helping them define a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solution which matches their specific needs. If implemented well, VDI can support enhanced user mobility and remote access. Imagine having a standardized desktop that can be reached from almost anywhere.
Technology has played an immense role in helping us adapt to this ‘new normal’, and there is no doubt that it will become even more ingrained into our daily lives in the future.
What do your scaling plans look like?
We primarily look at the market from multiple perspectives, mainly from the perspectives of large enterprises and global accounts, but we also cater to the huge opportunities presented by mid-markets and SMBs. The channel ecosystem in India continues to play a critical role in Lenovo DCG’s overall growth, and we are increasing our focus on the distribution model of data center solutions through our distributors to reach the hinterland Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities in India.
However, challenges remain for the SME sector – majorly due to budget constraints and lack of skilled workforce. The right technology is the key to transforming digitally and the Lenovo TruScale subscription-based offering is working towards making technology accessible to more types of business.
Could you enlighten us on your impending plan of action?
Our priority is to build high-performance solutions with our partners to assist companies in India to tackle day-to-day business challenges, improve performance and work flexibly using our extensive portfolio of SDI, IoT, HPC/AI and storage services.
We are helping our customers harness the potential of cloud and emerging technologies by providing second-to-none data center solutions that allow them to focus on their business. We also aim to make Intelligent Transformation a reality for all businesses with three intelligent technology pillars: Smart IoT – connecting devices for free flow of communication and data; Smart Infrastructure – high-quality and customised computing, storage and networking power to support intelligent devices; and Smart Verticals – end-to-end intelligent solutions enabling digital transformation across industries.
Lastly, what’s the takeaway for our wannapreneurs?
For wannapreneurs or aspiring entrepreneurs, this is the right time to step up and execute your business idea. We are in a phase where technology innovation is occurring at breakneck speed, investing in the right smart technologies will enable them to harness the opportunities before us.
But the importance on building the right skills in deep technologies and everything associated with data cannot be understated. To leverage opportunities now and also keep up with advancement in the future, constantly upskilling will be crucial. The path to entrepreneurship now is a tough yet a rewarding one.
